We are proud to announce the 2010 Great Lakes Invitational, a new sanctioned tournament that's open to everyone!

We have been playing Stiga as an organized league for more than 5 years here in Madison. We started playing in Dean Kallas' basement, fondly known as the Kremlin. Almost two years ago, we made the big move to The Frequency, a live music venue and night club owned by Darwin Sampson and located in downtown Madison just off the Capitol Square.

Our league is growing strong and The Madison Resistance has had several tournaments on Dean's sunny porch and at The Frequency, traditionally held near the summer solstice. We have been traveling to the U.S. Open for 5 years and really love table hockey. We've been planning on having this tournament since last summer, and going to Detroit really got us inspired to put the finishing touches on it because that was such a great tournament. So here we are. You're all invited!!

The 1st ever Great Lakes Invitational will be held Sunday June 27, 2010 at The Frequency, 121 W Main St, Madison, WI. Madison is so beautiful in June and the Capitol Square hosts one of the largest outdoor farmers' markets on Saturdays with over 150 vendors. Make a weekend of it, play table hockey with friends old and new, and be the first to win hardware at the first ever Great Lakes Invitational. See you there!

Hello Jason, I hope you get big numbers for your tournament. I am committed that weekend so I will have to decline your invitation.

With Paul Brotz on the registered players list, I think that's enough hype for one day. Wink

We would like to welcome the following players to the Great Lakes Invitational!

Todd "tha killer" Miller, Madison, WI

Eric "ole king" Krol, Homer Glen, WI

Kevin "not the Vikings defensive back" Williams, Livonia, MI

Eric "not the former Reds center fielder" Davis, Byron, IL

David "Calico" Rhys and his friend in the witness protection program "James" from Marshall, WI

and of course...

Paul "the hype" Brotz, Canton, MI

Hope you all like your new nicknames. Feel free to make puberty jokes at free will(y). Honestly, it's been really great to have some USTHA big guns join the tournament! We are at a sweet 16, and hope to get a few more players to come.

Who wants to win it? Cheers

HEAR YE, HEAR YE! The Madison Resistance table hockey club wants YOU to play in the Great Lakes Invitational on June 27, 2010!

CASH MONEY PRIZE for the A GROUP WINNER!!!
That's right, there's gonna be a cash money prize for 1st place A group (and maybe more). Overhead is low, the venue is free, and we want people to come. Name your price people, but know that this ain't no spare change we're talking about.

FREE ADMISSION TO THE SHOW AFTER THE TOURNEY
Cait and the girls, with Everyday/Everynight and Honey and Darling will go onstage at 10 pm. Note that the playoffs for A group winner will likely be held on stage too! Grrrl rock!!

and best of all,

THIRTY GAMES OF HOCKEY FOR THIRTY DOLLARS!
No guarantees, but this arithmetic is based on 16 players with 15 games in round 1 and 14 games in round 2, plus at least one playoff game. How can you beat that kind of Stiga value!

Items of note. The tournament will follow a round robin format with best of 7 playoffs. Players' meeting at 10:00 am. Round 1 at 10:30. Round 2 at 1:30 and playoffs at 4:30.

We are currently at 16 players, and if that number doesn't change by much, we will follow the following format.

Round 1 - play everyone once
Round 2 - split into A/B and play everyone twice
Playoffs - best of 7 series

If there are 20 players or more, we will split into two groups for round 1, and will modify round 2 accordingly. The wisdom of the elders will help dictate the format, so be assured, though I am squirrely, the format will not be.

We would like to welcome Tim "Fast and Furious" Walker of the DTHL to the Great Lakes Invitational! A real Midwest battle is shaping up in the People's Republic of Madison.

Two weeks until Madison. Still time to sign up if you're on the fence.

I'm getting excited.

Could use a tune-up though.

Hi Jason,

I'm very sorry, I messed up and didn't get your tournament on the list. I just turned off my other computer with the web dev software and am going to bed. I'll update the site tomorrow.

John Medema has joined the Great Lakes Invitational! Welcome, John!

The count now stands at 18 players including 4 of the top 10 in the US.

We are proud to have such great players in the mix and are thankful to everyone who is coming to the inaugural Madison TH tournament!

This isn't just some backyard brawl in the boons, boys. Make TH history! There's still time to sign up for the 1st ever Great Lakes Invitational in beautiful Madison, WI!

The Frequency Bar is proud to host the fierce action for the GLI! We will play in a historic building on a historic day.

Four players from Madison will make their TH debuts: Dustin Boyle, Todd Miller, Collin Rust, and James van Lieshout. Marshall TH bursts on to the stage with new players Calico Rhys and James Ernst. Although they are as of yet unknown, you can guarantee no game will be a gimmee in Madison.

If you're still on the fence, just hop on over. Madison features two beautiful lakes within a few minutes walk from the venue, a vibrant downtown retail district with restaurants and music all night long.

The Frequency will have Cait and the girls, with Everyday/Everynight and Honey and Darling at 10 pm following the A finals playoffs. Cash money prize for the tournament champion. With only TEN DAYS until the first whistle blows at the GLI, you've got to get in while you still can.

Alright TH fans, check out the first-ever fake news story on our fine sport, in (you guessed it) The Onion.

http://www.avclub.com/madison/articles/no-skates-no-athleticism-no-problem-at-the-table-h,42402/

The Onion was nice enough to link to a Youtube video, taken at the Frequency and previously unknown to us. Darwin, being the top-notch promoter he is, leaves our boards set up in the Frequency and bands play from time to time as they're waiting to go on stage. Who knows how many people have been exposed to Stiga this way, but these guys won't be giving us competition any time soon.

Cheers
