Well, 7 stars and me. I think I once made the playoffs in that league (not as easy as it sounds).

I think it's the movie "Rounders"...they're playing cards...if you can't tell who the sucker is, it's you!

At least my restored vintage 5340 metal game will get a workout. Blackhawks vs. Sharks.

Joe Salazar was very impressive...down 2-0 in the first round, he won the next three to advance against Mr. Ron.

Also nice to see Mike Lisowski again after all these years as he recovers from a health scare. Thanks to Ron for driving him.

Took Jeff T to OT in one of our playoff games...and that's about the best I can say about my performance. Tough to generate offense against that dude. Seemed to be the case for just about everyone all day.

OK, it's all over in suburban Chicago.

Jim Rzonca defeated Jeff Thill 4-2 in the Best of 7 finals to win the tournament. The finals featured all one-goal games except for one game. And three of the games went to OT. It could have gone either way, obviously.

We played a double round robin, with the top four making the playoffs. Darrell Beyer was a surprise entrant from Madison, WI. A couple came down from McHenry County, about an hour or so away, but decided to observe. The action was fast and furious on slick restored 5340-style games with the big nets and banana blades.

Round Robin Results

Jeff Thill 10-2-0
Jim Rzonca 10-2-0
Dan Lord 9-2-1
Eric Krol 4-6-2
Mark Roberts 3-7-2
John Medema 2-10-0
Darrell Beyer 1-10-1

Then it was playoff time. Jeff Thill won both games in the round robin against Jim, so he was top seed.

Semis.....Best of 5

Jeff 6 6 8
Eric 2 2 3

Jim 5 9 4
Dan 2 4 3 (ot)

Finals...Best of 7

Jeff 3 2 3 6 3 1
Jim 4 3 4 2 2 2

Games 2, 3, 5 were OT.

Jim took a 3-0 lead in the series. Then Jeff took the next two. Jeff held a 1-0 lead for much of Game 6, but Jim tied it. With maybe a minute left, there was a scrum near center ice and the puck went airborne and ended up in Jeff's net. Jim held on to win the game and series.

We'll be back at it on the Stiga, perhaps on Saturday, Feb. 4, the night before the Super Bowl.
