Some hotel group rate information posted on the tournament web site tonight, courtesy Darwin Sampson:
HOTEL GROUP RATE INFO
We have put together a group rate for the tournament covering Saturday, June 23 and Sunday June 24. The rate is $79 plus tax at the Holiday Inn Madison at The American Center. Guests can either call the hotel directly at 608-249-4220, the toll free number 1-800-HOLIDAY or online. The web site is http://www.holidayinn.com/madisonwi. On the left hand side of the web site, the guest would select the date of June 23 or June 24 and enter the group code of THT. They will be directed to the group rate of $79 plus tax, where they will be able to make their reservation. The hotel is located just off I90/94 and Hwy 151 on the east side of Madison. It does offer complimentary airport transportation. |

Hello. Just a couple weeks until the Madison Stiga tournament.
If you're interested in playing, check out the tournament web page and contact the organizer, Darwin Sampson.

I spoke with Darwin Sampson last night thanks to an inadvertent butt dial, LOL.
He's busy prepping for the Great Lakes Invitational tournament that's set to take place in two weeks (Sunday, June 24). The player list is at a solid 11 with negotiations taking place with up to a dozen more as people figure out their summer plans.
Still time to get in on the action, especially if you're in the Midwest and within driving distance.
Madison, WI is an incredibly fun town....kinda the Austin, TX of the Midwest...university town, lots of great places to drink. It's but a fraction of the size of Chicago and it has about as many, possibly more, great local microbreweries.
I can personally recommend Ale Asylum (Hopalicious) and Spotted Cow (pretty much anything). The Great Dane restaurant is a microbrewery with a lot to choose from. There are many others. |

Thanks, Reg. Totally unexpected because I haven't been playing that well lately. I still can't believe it, especially since my hands were cramping up most of the afternoon. I was drinking a lot of water & Coca-cola all afternoon to try to counter the effects. I guess Grandpa can still bring it from time to time, which should be encouraging to all the young whipper-snappers out there that there is always hope. _________________ John Medema

Thanks, Warren. My only 2 losses on the day were to Darwin (2-1 loss) and Eric Davis (6-3 loss). I had to meet both of them in the playoff rounds and I didn't forget what had happened in the morning, especially Eric, who I was leading 3-2 with 2 min. left in the game.
I also had, in the back of my mind, the rememberance of 1 week earlier when Eric Davis won the LTHL championship. He knocked me out 4 games to 1 quite easily in round 2 that day. _________________ John Medema

Kevin, I'd like to get a copy of the footage if you could do that for me, please. Most of that afternoon was a blur to me. _________________ John Medema

Yes, thank you Madison gang for putting on a fun time. What great local beers you have. Brought home a variety of them. See ya in three weeks in Lemont.

Correction: I have a short memory sometimes. Eric Davis was the LTHL champion that day, but it was Jim that knocked me out in the previous round. _________________ John Medema
