The Vancouver Table Hockey Club is back in action in 2016! VTHC President Paul Lobley is playing host to Club dates for his third consecutive season and rumours are swirling that VTHC legend Warren Klotz is making a comeback in 2016.

Players confirmed to make 2016 VTHC Regular Season appearances are as follows: (In alphabetical order)

Andrew Capeau
Dominic Froome
Warren Klotz
Paul Lobley
Rick Thompson

The full list of VTHC 2016 Club dates are as follows and all start times are 1pm:

-Sunday, February 7th (Season Opener)
-Saturday, February 27th
-Saturday, March 26th
-Saturday, April 23rd
-Saturday, May 28th (VTHC Cup Playoffs)

The 2016 VTHC Cup Playoffs are open to all Stiga players of the world and ITHF rankings will be used to match up the players for the opening round best of seven series. Eventually there will be two VTHC Cup finalists who will play a best of seven series to determine the 2016 VTHC Cup Champion. A third place series (Best of 3) will be played by the two VTHC Cup Semi Finalist losers as well.

All regular season round robins will be balanced schedule says VTHC VP Dominic Froome. "The 2016 season is shorter so we want to make sure all players can play each other as many times as possible leading up to the playoffs. The guys all know each other and are able to deal with the agony of defeat as well as any table hockey group can."

The hope of VTHC President Lobley is to see a larger contingent of players travelling to Edmonton, in September, to play the 2016 Edmonton Centennial. Says Lobley: "The opportunity for players to achieve higher ITHF rankings is there, for the taking, if players decide to do it. The VTHC 2016 season can be a big way to get ready for a bigger table hockey test in West Edmonton Mall this September."

The possible addition of Warren Klotz to the 2016 VTHC lineup can only be seen as a positive in regards to bringing home big ITHF points for future VTHC Club dates in 2017. Klotz, a four time VTHC Cup Champion, can really help the VTHC raise the talent level higher on the way to Edmonton in September. The 2016 VTHC season is only two weeks away. Stay tuned for the 2016 VTHC season opening report table hockey fans. The VTHC will know, soon, if Warren "The Cowboy" Klotz is back on board the VTHC Express after a nearly two year hiatus from club play in Vancouver.

New Westminster. Perhaps a game or 2, a little TH promo and player recruit

Assuming things are arranged in New Westminster similarly to how they were in Whitehorse last weekend, the Hometown Hockey festivities include a few SuperChexx games in one of the tents. Get on one of those games and start taking challengers, Dominic! Flex

Well table hockey fans the VTHC brass tell me, a proud member of the Table Hockey Reporters Guild of North America, that 8 players is full capacity for the 2016 VTHC season. "To go bigger is to require a public venue and Vancouver is no walk in the park, financially, today" , says VTHC President Paul Lobley adding, "Entry fees are not in the cards, for 2016, and they don't need to be at this juncture of VTHC history provided the next level is not pursued at this time."

VTHC President Paul Lobley is just glad to see some players return for a shortened season in 2016. The supply has been reduced to catch up to the diminishing demand for table hockey. VTHC VP Dominic Froome, upon consultations with the VTHC President, also released the official 2016 VTHC Constitution today. Here it is below:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VTHC 2016 CONSTITUTION:

VTHC Medal Points System:
The Vancouver Table Hockey Club plays a round robin + playoffs every outing, crowning gold, silver and bronze medalists each time out. We'll tabulate a season long medal points system to determine the VTHC medal points champion for every VTHC season. Gold medal points, awarded, equal the club date player number X2 + 1 for attendance. (One point less, per player, all the way down the line.)
3 Players: Gold:7pts/ Silver:6pts / Bronze: 5pts.
4 Players: Gold:9pts/ Silver:8pts / Bronze:7pts / 4th:6pts.
5 Players: Gold:11pts/ Silver:10pts/ Bronze:9pts/ 4th:8pts/ 5th:7pts.
6 Players: Gold:13pts:/ Silver:12pts/ Bronze:11pts/ 4th:10pts/
5th:9pts/ 6th:8pts.
7 Players: Gold:15pts/ Silver:14pts/ Bronze:13pts/ 4th:12pts/ 5th:11pts/ 6th:10pts/ 7th:9pts.
8 Players: Gold:17pts/ Silver:16pts/ Bronze:15pts/ 4th:14pts/ 5th:13pts/ 6th:12pts/ 7th:11pts/ 8th:10pts.

Overall Medal Points Tie Breaking Procedure:
1) Player with most gold medals gets the higher seed.
2) If players are still tied: player with most silver medals gets the higher seed.
3) If players are still tied: player with the most bronze medals gets the higher seed.
4) If players are still tied then player with the better overall Goal Differential Per Game Average (GDPGA) gets the higher seed.
5) If a three way tie. Player with most gold medals (or silvers or bronzes or higher overall GDPGA) gets higher seed. Then remaining two players go most gold medals (or silvers or bronzes or higher overall GDPGA) to determine who gets the higher seed between the tied.
6)Same process breaks a four way tie if this miracle should occur.

Balanced Schedule Round Robins: are used for all VTHC club dates. Players, in attendance, play each other player an equal amount of times to produce medal point standings from each club date played.

VTHC Round Robin & Medal Point Playoffs Organizational Plan:
3 Players: One group. Players play each other X6. = 12 game round robin per player. Seeded in order of round robin points or tie breakers. Playoffs: Semi Finals: 2vs3: Best of 5. Winner advances to play Gold Final: 1vs?: Best of 7.

4 Players: One group. Players play each other X4. = 12 game round robin per player. Seeded in order of round robin points or tie breakers. Playoffs: Semi Finals: 1vs4 and 2vs3: Best of 5's. Semi Final losers play the Bronze: Best of 3. Semi Final winners play the Gold: Best of 7.

5 Players: One group. Players play each other X3. = 12 game round robin per player. Seeded in order of round robin points or tie breakers. Playoffs: Quarter Finals: 4vs5: Best of 3. Quarter Finals winner advances to Semi Finals: Reseeded 1vs? 2vs3: Best of 5's. Semi Final losers play the Bronze: Best of 3. Semi Final winners play the Gold: Best of 7.

6 Players: One group. Players play each other X2. = 10 game round robin per player. Seeded in order of round robin points or tie breakers. Playoffs: Gold Quarter Finals: 3vs6, 4vs5: Best of 3's. Gold Quarter Final winners advance to Gold Semi Finals. 1vs? & 2vs?: Best of 5's. Gold Quarter Final losers advance to Bronze Semi Finals round. Gold Semi Finals losers advance to Bronze Semi Finals round. Round robin seedings used to determine Bronze Semi Finals series match ups. (Best of 3's.) Winners of Bronze Semi Finals advance to the Bronze Final: Best of 3. Gold Semi Finals winners play the Gold Final: Best of 7.

7 Players: One group. Players play each other player X2. = 12 game round robin per player. Seeded in order of round robin points or tie breakers. Playoffs: #1 gets a bye. Gold Quarter Finals losers placed in Bronze Quarter Finals, round robin seeding applied to create Bronze Quarter Finals series match ups: Best of 3's. Winners of Bronze Quarter Finals advance to Bronze Semi Finals. Gold Semi Finals losers advance to Bronze Semi Finals, round robin seeding create Bronze Semi Finals series match ups. Best of 3's. Bronze Semi Finals winners advance to play Bronze Final: Best of 3. Gold Semi Finals Winners play the Gold Final: Best of 7.

Round Robin Tie Breaking Procedure:
1)Player with most round robin wins.
2)Player with most wins, in tied players' head to head results on the day.
3)Player with the better overall round robin goal differential on the day.
4)First player to a goal.

VTHC Cup Playoff Plan: VTHC Cup playoffs to only use "best of seven" series to determine two eventual VTHC Cup Finalists. The Finalists will then play a "best of seven" series to crown each season's VTHC Cup champion. VTHC Cup playoff format mirrors the VTHC medal point player number playoff plans. ITHF player rankings, for all players on hand to play VTHC Cup playoffs, determine the playoff seedings for the day. Higher ITHF ranking, between playoff player match ups, gains home ice advantage for any playoff series. This includes first choice of game and then first choice of side to begin best of seven series battles. (2,2,1,1,1 format.) All pre VTHC Cup Finals eliminated players then play a third place playoffs, using "best of three" series, until the third place winner is determined. ITHF rankings are reapplied to set the third place playoff match ups and home ice advantages in the first round. Winners are reseeded, each round, until the third place winner is determined. (1,1,1 format) used for all best of three series.

VTHC Awards:
-VTHC Cup: Playoff champion.
-VTHC Medal Points Trophy: Most medal points won.
-VTHC Presidents Trophy: Highest regular season winning percentage.
-VTHC Markus Naslund Award: Best regular season G.F.P.G.
-VTHC Richard Brodeur Award: Best regular season G.A.P.G.
-VTHC Pavel Bure Award: Best regular season goal differential.
-VTHC Trevor Linden Award: For sportsmanship, perserverance and dedication.(Voted on by all VTHC players.)
-VTHC William Henne Award: Most improved player. (Voted on by VTHC President and Vice President.)

VTHC Mercy Rule: The VTHC maintains a 7 goal mercy rule for all round robin games played on club dates. If a lead of 7 goals is reached, in a round robin game, then the game is immediately halted and both players can use the remaining time to practise and share tips on how to improve their Stiga skills. There is no mercy rule in all VTHC medal point and VTHC Cup: playoff games.

On a side note Warren Klotz is officially returning to the VTHC to play the 2016 season! He made this official after Tuesday night pre season action was played. The VTHC season opener is on Super Bowl Sunday. Stay tuned table hockey fans!

Any ITHF unranked players will be seeded, in alphabetical order, below all ITHF ranked players. The playoff seedings will determine all first round playoff matchups.

Dominic Froome
VTHC VP
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well this table hockey reporter likes the plan. It can add more ITHF ranking points value to the VTHC Cup playoffs, by virtue of top ranked players entering the VTHC Cup playoffs and also welcome new players to try their hand at bringing unknown skill levels to the event. This approach to the VTHC Cup plan is systematic and beyond all individual minded politics too. We'll see if it can grow the stature of the VTHC Cup, soon, table hockey fans. Stay tuned for the 2016 VTHC season opener report!

The VTHC had 5 players, on hand, to fight for VTHC Gold. A day that saw both Andrew Capeau and Rick Thompson make their 2016 VTHC season debuts. Capeau showing capable hands and a game that can be difficult to play against while Rick Thompson, who can score goals, played in some high scoring games that lacked adequate defense. Thompson lost one game to Dom Froome 10-4 after jumping out to an early 2-0 lead. He also led another game against Froome 2-0 before losing it 6-4. Defense being the weakest link in Thompson's game. There went the defensive numbers on the day for Thompson. Thompson's goals against average was a lofty 4.67 while he scored an average of 2.42 goals per game in the day's round robin. Capeau went 4-8-0 in the round robin. His biggest accomplishment being a 2-1 round robin game victory over three time VTHC Cup champion Dom Froome. I think it made his table hockey day complete.

At the end of the day's games it was Warren Klotz who took the gold medal. He defeated Dom Froome, in the Gold Series, 4 games to 2. Two of Klotz's wins by virtue of overtime. Klotz is clearly the man to beat at the midway point of the 2016 VTHC season. He's leading in goal scoring (109 for a 4.54 GFPG), leading in goaltending (50 allowed for a 2.08 GAPG with 3 shutouts) and leading the regular season race (.875 winning percentage after 24 games played).

In the Gold Series Klotz was on fire early as he shutout Froome 7-0. Froome then started to find his way with a solid 3-0 win, in game two, followed by a tough 4-3 win in game three. Then Klotz took over with clutch overtime goals to win games four and five by scores of 3-2. Game four saw a strange overtime goal as Froome tried to rip the puck out of his own zone with his left D backed up to the end wall. The puck whizzed around the corner wall but hit Klotz's uncontrolled RW dead on the player figure peg leg, close to the blue line, and the puck went straight into the short side of Froome's net with surprising speed. The game five winner was mere seconds after the opening overtime faceoff where Klotz scored a nice LW to C (high) goal after gaining control of the puck after it was dumped in by his RD down the right wing wall and behind Froome's net. Froome never got a chance to score in this overtime. Both players knew it was a tough series and both players gained solid experience from this Gold Medal tilt. Klotz leads the 2016 VTHC medal points race by two points over Froome with this gold medal victory.

VTHC President Paul Lobley won the bronze medal. His second of the season. His high point of the day was a 2-0 shutout victory over Dom Froome. Lobley is improving and often makes it difficult for opponents to score. Lobley only surrendered 6 goals in 3 Bronze Series games versus Andrew Capeau. Center moves still need to be developed by Lobley and he knows this. Time will tell if Lobley has the desire to become an offensive attack that includes a center move plan complete with clever and delicate centerman feeds from both wingers and defensemen too.

The Round Robin Numbers:

(W L OTL PTS GF GA GFPG GAPG SO)
1)Warren Klotz..11-1-0-22-60-21-5.00-1.75-2

PostPosted: Sat Mar 26, 2016 7:51 pm    Post subject: Klotz wins 3rd consecutive VTHC Gold. Reply with quote

Warren Klotz (31-5-0) won his third consecutive VTHC 2016 gold medal today, with a well earned 4 games to 1 Gold Medal Series victory over Dom Froome. It was a day of prolific goal scoring, for the Cowboy, as he scored 69 goals in 12 round robin games along with 42 goals in 8 medal point playoff games. (A total of 111 goals scored in 20 total games played.) 11 of Klotz's goals were scored in game one of his Gold Semi Finals series versus Rick Thompson. An 11-0 drubbing.

Klotz is the odds on favourite to win the VTHC Cup in 2016. His defense is tops, in the VTHC, with only one 2016 VTHC regular season date remaining to be played. He's given up a meager 70 goals against in 36 round robin games played for a solid 1.96 goals against average with 6 shutouts.

The Gold Medal Series saw the first four games, between Klotz and Froome, all decided by one goal with two of the games going into overtime. Game four saw Froome tie this game 3-3, with about 30 seconds remaining and then try a RW to C high pass, with only 5 seconds remaining, that saw the puck get air over the LD slot before Klotz would shoot home a buzzer beater with half a second remaining on the clock utilizing a RD to C play. Froome (27-7-2) got the bounces, earlier in the day, but Klotz owned the bounces in the Gold Medal series.

Froome had an excellent round robin, regaining a higher standard of winning, as compared to the prior two 2016 VTHC tilts, going 11-1-0 and scooping up 5 shutouts to take top seed to the VTHC Medal Point Playoffs. He rattled off 9 consecutive wins after a 2-1-0 start to the day and scored 8 goals, via fintar, for 0.67 "fintar goals per game" (FGPG). Froome, along with Klotz, only gave up 20 round robin goals in 12 games played for a solid 1.67 goals against average. None of the other three VTHCers, on hand, could beat either Klotz or Froome all day.

Andrew Capeau (7-15-2) won the Bronze as he saved his best play for the end of the day. He struggled out of the gate, going 0-2-1 to start the round robin, but also impressed with 7-0 and 7-2 round robin wins over VTHC President Paul Lobley. Andrew finished the round robin with a 3-7-2 record and won the Bronze Series over Rick Thompson (6-18-0) with a shut out performance in game one and a big 5-4 overtime victory to win his second ever VTHC medal. (Both Bronze medals.)

Paul Lobley (7-26-3) wasn't impressed with his day of extreme contrasts in games played. He defeated Rick Thompson 8-1, Lost to Andrew Capeau by the above mentioned scores of 7-0 and 7-2, fought Dom Froome tough much of day with 4-3ot and 4-3 losses, and got pumelled all day by Warren Klotz 7-0, 8-2 and 5-2. No consistency and a very sub par 2-8-2 round robin record saw Lobley fail to win a medal for the first time in 2016. Paul played an "entertaining to watch" series with Andrew Capeau, in the Gold Quarter Finals that saw both players exude some developed talent, on the Stiga game, that would be big trouble for any novice player to deal with. "I'll be better in April and I will not go through this kind of a day ever again!" said Lobley with a cold beer and a reflective comment after the days games were done.

The 2016 Vancouver Table Hockey Club season wraps up with the VTHC Cup playoffs on Saturday May 28th at 1pm.

All global table hockey players, in good standing with the VTHC, are welcome to compete for the 2016 VTHC Cup. The cost to enter? Zero.

The Canadian Table Hockey Association has provided the VTHC with prizes and printed 2016 VTHC Cup Playoffs souvenir tickets for all players competing in the 2016 VTHC Cup. The VTHC Cup winner will win an autographed Daniel Sedin hat. The CTHA's also providing VTHC Cup players with complimentary Esso cards that offer savings of three cents per liter with an additional two cents per liter donated to Hockey Canada upon card use, at Esso stations, across Canada. (Must be redeemed by the end of May.)

VTHC brass tell me ITHF player rankings will set the playoff seedings for the playoffs. Any unranked players will be seeded, in alphabetical order, below all ranked players. The seedings will determine the first round playoff match ups plus home ice advantages for each series.

All series to be best of sevens. All eliminated players will play the VTHC Third Place Playoffs. These series will all be best of 3's until the third place playoff winner emerges. Then the VTHC Cup Finals best of seven series will be played last.

This is the final VTHC event, of 2016, so it's the one to attend for players on the fence. Please email VTHC VP Dominic Froome at: dominicf98@yahoo.com to gain entry into this year's VTHC Cup playoffs. Deadline for entry is Thursday, May 26th at midnight.

Warren Klotz wins the 2016 VTHC Cup! The VTHC Cup Final Series went seven games before Klotz would win a thrilling seventh game 1-0, by virtue of a last second goal, scored on Dom Froome. A goal that saw Warren use his left D to propel a blocked puck, just outside Froome's blueline, into the net with half a second remaining on the clock. Harvey Yee was manually timing the game and video shows that the goal was scored before time had run out.

The 2016 VTHC Cup Finals Series was a well played and hard fought battle between two long standing VTHC rivals. Klotz outscored Froome 21-20, overall in the series, to complete the 2016 VTHC's now official "Year Of The Cowboy". Klotz has won his 5th, all time, VTHC Cup title.

Harvey Yee made his one and only 2016 VTHC appearance, on this day, and showed that he's an experienced player who's kept a solid level of Stiga skills intact with practise sessions against Andrew Capeau played on Vancouver Island. Yee lost his Semi Finals series to Dom Froome, in four straight games, but they were all close and hard fought affairs. Froome outscoring Yee 14-8 in those four games played. Harvey had the best goals against average on the day, 2.08, as he took the Third Place Finals Series with a 2 games to 0 win over VTHC President Paul Lobley. Lobley showed his table hockey potential as he managed to win two games, over 2016 VTHC Cup champion Warren Klotz, in their VTHC Cup Semi Finals Series. Proof that being the best player in the VTHC is not an impossibility, for him to achieve, although the road is a long and rocky one to travel if Lobley is to one day hoist the VTHC Cup.

Rick Thompson finished in fifth place with some uncharacteristic offensive struggles endured early in the day. Thompson was outscored 15-8 in a five game series loss to Harvey Yee in the 2016 VTHC Cup Quarter Finals. Yee would later eliminate Thompson, from the third place playoffs, with a 2 games to 0 sweep.
