While there's never really been a "formal" declaration by anyone over the years, I've always worked off the assumption that the classic/vintage games (using the terms interchangably) were the Coleco/Eagle/Munro ones. Basically, anything that came after them were "modern" games. Which would mean primarily, what, Gretzky and Stiga?
I don't know a lot about the Benej game, other than it's really cool looking and well made and seems like it takes a lot of skill to play. I know there was a very vibrant and highly competitive tour on the Benej during the '90s (could be wrong on the time frame). But where would Benej fit? It's so big and high-end and different, it's almost its own category.
If you're trying to make a determination for your ACTHF, it would seem that Coleco/Eagle or Munro would be the way to go, since those are the vintage games that are being played. It's mostly Coleco, obviously, but there is a Munro league and/or tournament and in western Canada and Dwayne is keeping the flame alive in Chicago with his beautifully restored games.
Chexx has been around long enough to qualify, but they have their own association, I believe.
Interesting topic for discussion.

Hey John we like you...
A classic game is like Eric says Munro/Eagle/Coleco and even Tudor...If it's not made its not modern??...Give people like Jim, John, Carlo etc... (didn't leave anyone out on purpose) for having 5380 and 5340 tourneys...
The reason we play and even post on THH is because we enjoy the game...Lighten up...
If you dislike someone and don't care for someone's opinon find a tournament they are playing in and go beat them...Sticks and Stones...
An old league I used to play in had a Tudor game with a gear goalie in the middle (not on the left side like Stiga)...Players were plastic, it was a Classic... |

If you look under EAGLE games on the HEAVEN home page, you'll see about half of the games pictured are equipped with the CLASSIC "Metal Men with Plastic Sticks" These players were replaced with less expensive "flats" as Coleco cut corners before slicing their own throats.
Most of you are too young or unfortunate enough to have never played with these mini players. They were and ARE the best playing mini players ever manufactured, and can skate circles around the subsequent (and cheaper) descendents. Diamond puck necessairy!
Anyone who has logged the time (10+ hours) to perfect the handling of these players will agree with me. These players have the best qualities of the "flats" combined with the puck control of #D
For everyone else...."Ignorance is bliss" |

Im with you n the EAGLE tin men with yellow plastic sticks Len. The fine company that made them, the era they were produced plus there great playability has easily etched them as "CLASSIC" for many years now. Those EAGLE guys were great engineers. Look at all the styles and different model games they came out with over the years. No company has ever invented more different table hockey games with different styles, player figures, pucks, slot patterns and BEAUTIFUL graphics than EAGLE. Eagle IS the ULTIMATE in Classics!
WHO WAS THE EAGLE SHOP ENGINEER OF ALL THESE GAMES BACK IN THE DAY AT THE FACTORY IN MONTREAL????
Who was that person? He was Brilliant!
Its a Obvious CLASSIC Len.
Feel'n Classic

The details and craftsmanship of those Eagle games were unbelievable.
I suspect Alain or Andrew would know who the designers were? |

Haha, I'm sure you are being sarcastic. If anyone knows, it would be you. Hopefully you will chose to enlighten us? You are a Table Hockey Dictionary.
PS: If you don't wish to share it with all, please send me a private e-mail as I would like to know. Thanks |

| I have to agree with Len. Those old Eagle games from circa 1961 until 1968 or so, no matter which game is being played upon seem to unleash an excitement like none other. They made so many popular games with various slot patterns, it makes me wish I had worked there! |

[quote="johnbenej"]. Little snipes like thanking Jim for his tournament turnout, in the aftermath of mine, is so infantile and pathetic that you look silly. quote]
Just wanted to point out that I never heard about your tourney and I have no idea what happen and I could not be bothered to find out
Moving forward if you feel the need to crack out the name calling, don't. |
