I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Reggie yet, but Rzonca, Lord, and the Thills fit that description - minus the "Angel Face" of course. _________________

Thanks, guys and a big thanks to Kevin and AJ for putting on two well-run tournaments. No glitches, new Stiga games, old Coleco games and good food and drinks! It can't get much better than that!
I hope to be back next year with another ETHLer or two.

I want to thank all 20 table hockey players who played in the 3rd Annual United States Stiga Shootout in Southern California last weekend.
CHAMPION: Congratulations to the 2008 Champion, Reggie Stefaniszyn. Thanks for making the trip from Edmonton to be here. It was great having Reggie stay at my place. Reggie is such a great guy and a superb table hockey player. Reggie really knows his sports. We had a great time the next day sitting about 20 rows behind home plate at Dodger Stadium as the Chicago Cubs beat the LA Dodgers 3-1.
Second Place: Congrats to Eric Krol for coming out from Homer Glen, IL and making it all the way to the championship finals. Eric was a force to be reckoned with all day long. I hope you and your family had a great vacation in Southern California. So much to see and do out here. Thanks for all you’re doing for the USTHA.
Third place went to my buddy Peter Orum from Denmark and currently living in the U.S. in Tampa, FL. Thanks for making the cross-country trip for the tournament. Prior to the tournament, I thought Peter would face Reggie in the finals. But re-seeding each round just like in the NHL playoffs, with the highest seed playing the lowest seed, Peter and Reggie squared-off in the semi-finals. Like Reggie, Peter stayed at the Rafferty Hilton. We had a great time playing lots of bonus table hockey.
Fourth place finisher John Labianca drove in from Las Vegas the morning of the event. Johnny is a great guy and a really good table hockey player. Thanks for making the drive over to Southern California on several occasions to play. I hope we have many more chances to play table hockey together prior to January 2009 for the next Stiga Las Vegas. It was great going to the Wranglers minor league hockey game last year in Vegas with you and some of the other table hockey guys.
Congratulations to sixth place finisher John Medema from Tinley Park, IL. John just retired from his job days before the tournament after an illustrious teaching career. John is classy guy and a very solid table hockey player. Talk about an epic battle. John and I went to the fifth and final game to decide the B Pool Championship. I hope you and your wife had a great time in Southern California.
Movie stuntman Dan Brown, from Manchester, NH, played very well in his second United States Stiga Shootout appearance. Thanks for making the trip again and for bringing along your Boston University buddy Kyle Kilday, from Wolcott, CT. You guys were classy competitors.
My oldest son Sean, a high school freshman, beat me twice on the day. Sean also managed to beat John Medema and tied Peter Orum. Like with a lot of the younger people, they can become as good as they decide they want to be. It’s all a matter of how much time and effort they want to put into playing table hockey.
Jeff Wilens from Yorba Linda, CA won the C Pool. Jeff used to play in a Southern California table hockey league a few years ago when Norway’s Espen Moe was living in Southern California.
I want to thank the local players who made up the rest of the field for playing in the tournament. Everyone had a great time. Brothers, Zac and Steven Campos; father and son, Michael and Sean Hart; brother and sister Ricky and Tiffany Soto met in the finals for the D Pool Championship. Tiffany was the only female player at the tournament this year.
Another one of our regular SoCal players, Jacob Na, a student from South Korea, did very well. J.D. Garwood played great but needed to leave early.
My younger son Brian, who was the top Junior player at last year’s Stiga U.S. Open in Lemont, played well.
Last, but not least, I want to thank our neighbor, Austin Keyes for playing. Looking a lot like Shaquille O’Neal, Austin is a junior in high school -- and at six feet eight inches tall – he just might be the tallest table hockey in the world right now. Does anyone out there know of a table hockey player taller than 6’-8”?
The 4th Annual United States Stiga Shootout will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009. I hope you will consider combining a vacation in Southern California with a stop on your future table hockey tournament travel plans.
Best regards,
Kevin
