We're forming a new league in the Chicago area. It will be called the Tinley Tinman Table Hockey Club or TTTHC. We currently have 11 members with room for one more player (after that we start a waiting list). Our first meeting will take place on Saturday, April 18 at 7:00. We will meet once a month ( 6 sessions) with the playoffs to take place in October. We're set up in my garage so November through March would be a little too cold to play.

We will be using Munro 934 style games with woooden pucks. As near as I can figure these games were made between 1962-63, which would make them the oldest games being used in any league, anywhere. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. 36" height. Homemade ramp style puck droppers. All games 5 min. stop time with a ref. No website yet. Maybe next year. One thing at a time.

This will make 4 leagues in the Chicago area, and I should note that this was not set up to compete with the other leagues here. I felt that there was room for more TH here with a little variation in structure and game usage. I hope to draw even more players into the fold and hopefully it will spill over into the other leagues and tournaments. I wasn't going to do this without first discussing it with Jim Rzonca (LTHL), Rich Thill (MHL) and Dwayne Stegner (WTHA). I didn't want it to interfere with what they have going and have worked with all of them to coordinate scheduling. They have all been very supportive and enthusiastic. Thanks for the help guys!

I'm going to have a high & low division (there will be inter & intra division play) with relegation at the end of the season. We will also drop 1 week's scores from the totals to allow for illness or family commitments. I am also going to use a set schedule for players and refs drawn randomly.

Charter members are: John Medema, Jim Sluis, John (JP) Goldrick, Adam Thill, Jeff Thill, Rich Thill, Joe Salazar, Matt Medema, Ron Marsik, Jim Rzonca, and Joe Rozanski. We are loaded with talent and enthusiasm, and I'm very excited! Eric Krol and Bob Ingo couldn't make it on Saturdays, but they are first on the list if we ever shift over to Sundays.

I welcome any questions or comments. I'll post our schedule soon and feel free to stop by and visit (We'll have a cold one ready for you). Cheers

John Medema, congratulations on putting all of this together. I know the Munro games have been a passion for you, and I've been in that garage to see all the work and time and money you've dedicated to making the games league/tournament worthy. Clapping

I just know your hard work will pay off and result in great times for the duration of your season and playoffs. The CTHL planted the seed for table hockey in Chicago and your league is another branch in that tree. May your league be the paragon in Chicago. Cheers

A BIG weekend of Table Hockey here in Chicagoland folks. Saturday night the new MUNRO League and wake up to Sunday afternoon Coleco S Slot Challenge. The more options of Table Hockey games and dates we have here in Chicagoland the better John. We are all excited to be playing on your Munro games. Cant wait to play Mr Munro Ron Marsik saturday on the MUNRO and COLECO U.S. Open Champion Bob Ingo on Sunday!

Thanks for all the well wishes and supprt, guys.
Also, thanks for all the guys who participated and made it a great opening night. The Blachhawks winning also helped, but cut down on attendance.
It was exactly what I hoped for; casual, cordial and competitive. Ron Marsik was on fire and could not be stopped despite our best efforts. My prediction for the rest of the year is that most guys will become more familiar with the games and each other's playing styles and by the last session in Sept. it will be very competitive across the board.

Here's a peek at some of the opening night action:

Thanks for the compliment, Tom, and the ale which is going down smoothly right now.
Those are my ramp-style puck droppers which work quite well once you get them positioned correctly. They are a pain to make, but well worth it once you see the results. They come in 3 parts so they can be stored or packed away for travel, and the ramp is hinged, so it can be raised if it impairs anyone's vision.

We just got some coverage from our local newspaper. Hopefully it generates more interest.

I also hope I posted the link correctly.

I've compiled the league stats for our 6 week season (5 weeks count. Players get to drop 1 week of their choice, so the numbers in the stats won't add up due to different weeks dropped) 80 games each.

TTTHC 2009 Overall Standings

Campbell
W L T PTS GF GA SO
Ron Marsik 75 2 3 153 422 116 30

Jim Rzonca 67 11 2 136 343 152 30

John Medema 58 19 3 119 317 197 27

Rich Thill 44 28 8 96 255 248 26

Jeff Thill 38 28 14 90 214 178 23

Adam Thill 19 49 12 50 155 215 20

Prince of Wales

W L T PTS GF GA SO

Joe Rozanski 54 24 2 110 271 227 29

Matt Medema 42 32 6 90 180 263 33

Jim Sluis 32 45 3 67 131 338 29

JP Goldrick 22 44 14 58 76 181 26

Dan Lord 15 46 19 49 85 72 24

David Martello 12 50 18 42 58 182 26

* Adam Thill is relegated to the Prince of Wales Conference next season, and Joe Rozanski is promoted to the Campbell Conference next season.

For the regular season, players do 2 round robins in their own conference and 1 round robin with the other conference each week.

The playoffs are scheduled for Oct 17. I'll post those results after that date.

Big congrats to Joe Rozanski for winning his group. That's gotta feel good.

And to Mr. Medema for getting his league together and a successful first season.

Ron vs. Jim...what can you say? Marsik is a beast on those old-school games. On most TH games. And Jim's always in the finals mix in Chicago.

Best,
Eric

Thanks, Eric. A big part of the league is just having fun and it is evidenced by the smiles on everyone's faces. I tried a lot of new things and will revise some of them over the off season after I consult with the members.

One of the ideas that I had was to give some recognition to people for various accomplishments. Lots of trophys and medals, just to add to the fun. Here's a list of the various awards handed out last night.

Iron Man Award: (perfect attendance) Jim Rzonca & Rich Thill
Campbell Champ: Ron Marsik
Prince of Wales Champ: Joe Rozanski
Maurice Richard: (most goals) Ron Marsik
Norris: (best G.A. ave.) Ron Marsik
Hart: (best goal differential) Ron Marsik
Vezina: (most shut outs) Matt Medema
Art Ross: (most points) Ron Marsik
Lady Byng (most gentlemanly player) Jim Sluis *voted by all members
Masterson: (perseverance) David Martello *voted by all members
Calder (best rookie) Joe Rozanski *voted by all members
Lester Patrick: (contributions to the league) JP Goldrick *chosen by me

At the risk of minimizing any one trophy's importance or making it look like a little league where everyone gets something, I weighed that against recognizing accomplisments for some people who never get anything (but these were all earned). It's just one feature to add to the fun and have a memento that can serve as a fond reminder.

I have a new website up and running now. It's very basic, but it will give you a good idea of what the Tinley Tinman Table Hockey Club is doing.
2 months to go before we start our second season. Once a month from April to October.

Enjoy.
