The draft was over for me before the first round even started. A stud D-man who is the meanest in the league. Pronger will clear the crease and score points and although it sounds like a lot I don't think giving up Lupul, Sbisa and two 1st round pick is a lot for a guy like Pronger. The picks will be above 25 and Pronger gives us a chance NOW and for the next 5 years!!!!!! Way better pick up than J-Bo or Komisarek.

Also, kudos to USA hockey with 7 Americans picked in the 1st round.

Yeah, OK, Pronger will be a perfect fit in Philadelphia.

But they are going to have a great AHL team too unless they find a way to dump salary fast.

And effectively four first-rounders for a 34-year-old player who has had a very physical career is going to prove to be too much, IMO. OK, three firsts and a sort of a bust (Lupul). I hope Lupul manages to find the groove he seemed to be developing on, the first time he was with the Ducks.

Still, as a Senator fan, I love how much Pronger commanded on the trade market. There's hope that Heatley might bring us back something worthwhile after all. Especially after the Senators eat $4 million on July 1 to satisfy his front-loaded contract.

Trivia: this is the second time Pronger and Lupul have been traded for each other (among other assets)!

Currently, Philly is 5 million under the cap.

Hey, you're mostly right:

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-central/

Philadelphia Flyers ... 19 signed ... $1,827,084 under cap

They shed some salary when I wasn't looking.

This is going to be a real good season for them. Emery is a perfect fit there, always feisty and combative. Congratulations.

I'm real disappointed in Heatley, hamstringing two organizations now at once. My team struggles to only lose a half-step, while even the Leafs and Habs retool. It's going to be a tough season here.

I like the signing of Ian Lappierrere as well. Boucher as a backup for 925K is a steal. In a way it seems like a band-aid in goal but if Emery can play well this team will be very dangerous.
