Hello fellow table hockey enthusiasts. We've got an announcement for you about this year's tournament in Detroit. Paul Brotz, who has very ably and expertly organized the event for several years, decided that he could not devote the time this year. That's understandable. Instead of pulling the plug, however, Paul graciously offered to let others carry on with the important tournament that he's poured so much time, energy, enthusiasm and money into for so long. So that's what we'll do. Myself, John Medema, Kevin Williams and some of his CAGA league, and Paul Ruiz are teaming up to put on the SNAC this year. A big thank you to them for their efforts. And major props to Paul Brotz for putting on such an excellent, first-class tournament that so many people had great TH fun at over the years. Detroit is and has historically been an important TH city.

We hope you'll come join us if you have the interest and time. The goal is not a big money-making venture...simply to break even/maybe lose a little and continue the fine SNAC tradition. And to have fun. Entry fee will be the same as previous years, in recognition that the economy still ain't pretty and Detroit has been especially hard hit. We'll have some new games, and there will be some used ones in the mix. We have a different venue. Probably a mix of trophies and medals, maybe a small amount of prize money to the various group winners, depending on the number of entries and what costs end up being. Too early to tell. If you're wondering about the Coleco portion, please see below.

The tournament web site will be updated fairly soon, but until then, we've got an information page up here: http://byline302.tripod.com/aboutus/detroit2011.html

Details:

*Date is Saturday, March 19.

*Location is Embassy Suites/Livonia.

*Tournament entry fee: $35, same as last year. It'll be $30 for first-time players. After March 14, the fee is $40.

*To register, please send an e-mail to Eric Krol at ericakrol@gmail.com

Hotel Group Rate:

*Embassy Suites Livonia, 19525 Victor Parkway Livonia, MI 48152, (734) 462-6000

*Special room rates are $84/night for a suite, but they need to be booked by phone and please ask for the "Stiga North American Table Hockey Tournament" block. Room rates are good until Feb. 25, 2011. There's a made-to-order breakfast included in the room price, and they're all suites, so guys can double up and still maintain some privacy.

COLECO

I know that the past couple years there has been a Coleco tournament on Friday night in Detroit. I'm not in a position to do a Coleco tournament at this point. Two main reasons: I don't own any Coleco 5380 games, and the rate the hotel is charging me for the tournament room would double if we play games on Friday night instead of simply being in there for a quick setup.

That said, if some Coleco enthusiasts want to discuss the issue further, please send me an e-mail. I'm not going to get into a message board discussion about the topic, but am open to a private talk to see if there's something that can be done that makes everyone happy. I understand and appreciate your enthusiasm for old-school Coleco.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please consider coming and playing in Detroit with us. I think you'll have a good time.

Best,

Eric Krol

Thanks Jason.

Young Paul Shabi of Fraser, MI e-mailed me to sign up, so we're at a humble start of 8 players that I suspect will grow much larger.

Paul Shabi is in! Wow, that's great news!

Darwin and I are hoping to get some more Madison players to sign up. There has been talk of getting a van, and the only reason we'd need that much space is because...

...the People's Republic of Madison Resistance will be invading Detroit come March!! Blazing Guns

We've had a flurry of sign-ups this week. Some dudes from the OVTHL. And Johnny Labs from Vegas.

And a new player from Latvia who now lives in Scranton, PA. No, it is not Edgars. Smile

Uldis Jekabsons from Scranton, PA Huh!

It's good to see the number of players climbing.

Who will be next to sign up?

Thank you, Paul.

Uldis tells me he graduated from high school 13 years ago and played in the first big table hockey tournament ever in Latvia. He knows Raivis Sternats, who is ranked 41st in the world according to the ITHF, which is good for 8th in Latvia.

I told Uldis he should play in the Battle at Binghamton in November because that city is only an hour away from Scranton, PA.

I'm projecting out this year's SNAC at 32 or so.

I know of 6 or so players who came last year who aren't going to be able to make this year's event.

On the flip side, there are a couple of new players registered. And there are a few more players I know who plan to make it who just haven't signed up yet.

We'll get there. Can't guarantee 100 players, but I can guarantee it'll be loads of fun. Tournament is wide open at this point too.

Dr. Kevin Rafferty from California has signed up for the SNAC.

He's one of the most consistent TH players out there.

We're glad to have him back in Detroit.

Just reserved my room at the Embassy Suites. You just have 5 days left to guarantee the $84 a night SNAC rates.

I am hoping that Mike Hibbard of Madison, WI shows up to the SNAC.

Because then it'll be Mike Hibbard vs. Mike Hubbard (of OVTHL fame).

Hibbard? Hubbard.

Hubbard? Hibbard.

Yea, I know SD won't be in Livonia for the SNAC tinman, Its the same day thing and no Coleco at this years event . But we'll miss him ... and his hat . Very Happy

But we do have 6 of the top 10 US players plus Tom "CoCo" Warren (who is as mad as heck and not going to take it anymore ) coming to Lovely Livonia so we have that going for us ... which is nice . Clapping

Two boxes of new Stiga games arrived today...so 10 new games for the SNAC. In addition to the restored ones.

John Medema will be expertly prepping them for the tournament. Which you can find out about here:

Two important things arrived in the mail today.

1. Some replacement rods from Phil Hamilton over at tablehockeygames.com

2. An e-mail from Reggie Stefaniszyn of Edmonton confirming that he's coming for the SNAC tournament on March 19.

He's one of a few big announcements we hope to have in the coming days.

Still plenty of time to sign up...

We've got another player signed up for the SNAC tournament in Detroit, which is now less than two weeks away.

It's Bjarne Axelsen of Bronderslev, Denmark. He's there to defend his title (two-time champ, I think).

Come join us. Plenty of room left.
