The Alberta Stiga Table Hockey Championships VII will take place at Centre Stage (The Bay) in West Edmonton Mall on Saturday, February 4, 2012.
We will begin at 9:30 am. One or two initial rounds will be played for a total of around 28-30 pre-playoff games. Playoffs all best-of-sevens in all Pools. This a Player's Choice tournament. As in ETHL tournaments in the past, schedules are set up so that there are minimum figure changes between games (one overall change per round robin) and scores are kept by each player on his scoresheet, so you'll get the maximum amount of games in a minimum of time!
Tentative schedule:
9:30 - 12:30 First round robin
12:30 - 1:15 Lunch break
1:15 - 2:30 Second round robin
2:30 - 3:15 Break
3:15 - 7:00 Playoffs and award ceremony
Entry fee is $15 and participation is open to anyone - Albertan or not. There will be 3 (or 4) pools, with trophies for the top 3 finishers of each division.
There may be a Junior tournament this year as well.
This is a player's choice tournament. NHL players may use Inter goalies. All player figures (NHL and Inter) will be supplied, but you may bring your own teams, if you wish, to use only in the Playoffs. The ETHL timer and face-off rule will be used. All games are cleaned with diluted Original Windex, have Suplaks, Lyle Knittig net deflectors, pledged rods, oiled slots and 'Tack it Over' on the rod pegs. This tournament is not part of the CTHA/USTHA North American Stiga Tour.

Just a few days away from the big day. I wonder if anyone can take out Reggie? Of course Kent would be the logical choice, but it would be interesting to see someone come out of the middle of the pack to take it all.

Hey John...
You'd expect Reggie to slip up one of these times (I don't call him losing to Kent slipping up) and lose to someone else, but after seeing him on a few hours sleep making it to the finals vs. Bjarne a few Centennials ago, I don't think it's possible.
I had my one chance a few years ago -- taking him to game 7 in our league playoffs. The next final I played him in it was back to the usual sweep for him. _________________ Dwayne |

... and what is possible, that's what I find so interesting in tournament play. It seems to me that this is a predictable sport. What are the odds we don't see a Reggie Kent final?
From afar it always sounds more interesting when Cinderella wins. When Eric Desjardins won the most recent Canada Challenge, it was not a shock to me, as I have played the guy A LOT and I know how good he can be. But I wonder what the international media thought of his victory?
... and of course it was nice to see a local boy who makes good.
anywho that was then, and this is now. So it would be very un-Presidential of me so say Go Dwayne Go! _________________ John Cooke

We had some media coverage:
1) A picture of Will and Dwayne playing was in Sunday's Edmonton Sun.
2) Two photos online at http://www.edmontonsun.com/2012/02/05/photos-edmonton-around-town
Image 3 of 12 shows an up close shot of Jonathan's fintar move
Image 4 of 12 shows Wesley vs. Jonathan and Kevin vs. me.
3) CTV news http://edmonton.ctv.ca/ Under the 'CTV News Video Player', click on 'CTV News at Six - Top Stories - Feb 4'
There is about 30 seconds of action and a Kent interview near the end of the 14 minute clip.

Good work boys. Media can never hurt.
So if I am saying that there was a sense of eventuallity on the board, this past weekend, I would also expect that there was a equally guarenteed good time in Alberta.
Would have liked to be there.
Thank you guys for doing all you do. _________________ John Cooke
