It helps quite a lot Mark! I think I might use both someday. Very popular games. Lots of players and leagues playing it. Parts available for both.
The Carleco/Coleco game is more of a better playing game than Irwin PP2. No offense to the PP2 Players. And the Irwin PP2. You can't do a lot of things on the game that you do with the Coleco/Carleco Game. There are some players that are good on both games. Players like, Burt Brassard, Bernie Kunzler, Dave Kraheling, Carlo Bossio, Sid Kloosterman, Antonio Ferrera. Guys like them so that is what makes things very amazing. Smile
For Irwin PP2:
Teams- $12
Nets- $6
Flat Players- $8

Coleco/Carleco 5380
Control Rods- $30
Control Rod Grips- $10
Set of Pucks(6)- $5
Plastic Players (5 Skaters & Goalie)- $5

Using both Games would be something cool to do! Very Happy

BTW: Congratulations on winning the Multi-Games Tourney this past weekend. Smile Very good showing by you, Super Dave, and the son of the PTHA President(Sid Kloosterman) Josh Kloosterman. Very well impressed. Keep up the good work. Very Happy

Paul.

Thanks Paul
it was a great event... and a real thrill for me, as i love all table hockey sets and always considered myself one of a handful of multi-game players. Beating another multi-game champ like kraehling is also always an honor, as each of us has won titles on 2 different games and having a multi game showdown made for an interesting dynamic that cannot be matched...

as for those prices you listed earlier, they should be basically the same.... the games use the same nets, pucks, flat players, same exact rods, etc. Great players can easily adapt to both games, as they are extremely similar in many ways (but no chip shots on PP2 as you can check the puck as soon as you cross the slot into the inner dimension of a winger's reach). PP2 is definitely the ford while coleco is the cadillac, but the ford is more all purpose, more accessible, more affordable, easy to learn for novices (and definitely the game you want to use for hardcore beer league and slappin' it around style table hockey with buddies in a league format!)
cheers

There are a lot of similarities with the Coleco and PP2 Game. I was sad to read that iToys (Irwin) was not going to make the games this year (2011). I hope they do so soon. Smile
I tihink the Best TH Games made by Irwin are the PP2 and Irwin Playoff (Classic S-Slot Pattern Game). Those are the games I would like to have someday. Smile

Cheers Cheers,

An observation that may change people's minds...
The Labelle and Carleco games travel well in the trunk of a car or the back of a van, but can they fly on a plane? Not really and even then only if you build a special box for it, and are willing to pay in excess of $300 for an oversize piece because they don't meet the regular baggage crtiteria.
But the original Coleco 5380 with ALL the modifications that I have made (stand, glass, puck dropper) travel as checked luggage and can be set up within minutes of arrival. And they can be carried too, just like the Labelles and the Carleco's.
So far, Classic 5380s have travelled to South Africa, India, Switzerland, Canada, and most recently Russia where Yanis Galuzo (world # 4 in Stiga) showed off what he can do on Coleco outside Moscow's famous Red Square.
Thanks Bjarne and Pontus for setting me up in Russia. Check out the Classic 5380 outside the Red Square at www.scthl.blogspot.com!
Or come to Las Vegas for the COLECO CLASSIC or to Southern California and see them in action!
