Here is our opening day schedule for 2012. It was created by
Splendid City Software which for some reason chose Dominic
Froome and myself to meet in the first game of the VTHC in
three years... very fitting!

Warren Klotz takes gold in first leg of the 2012 VTHC season. He defeated Eric Chesick 4 games to 1 in the gold medal series. Key moments of this series saw Warren overcome a 4-1 deficit, in game 3, with four unanswered goals in a 5-4 regulation time win. Then trailing in game 4, by a score of 4-3, Warren tied this game up with 1 second remaining. Overtime saw Klotz go on to win it 5-4. These moments changed the momentum of this series after Eric Chesick took game 1 by a score of 4-1. Eric's LW to C high play very tough to defend in the playoffs.

Round robin stats came up with these playoff seedings. (W-L-OTL-PTS)
1)Dominic Froome 8-1-3-19
2)Warren Klotz 8-2-2-18
3)Suke Dosanjh 8-4-0-16
4)Harvey Yee 7-5-0-14
5)Eric Chesick 6-4-2-14
6)Travis Pohl 3-9-0-6
7)Alain Limoges 2-10-0-4

Playoffs series played out like this:

4)Harvey Yee versus 5)Eric Chesick:
Harvey 5-3, Eric 3-2, Eric 4-1, Harvey 3-2OT, Eric 6-5. Eric Chesick wins 3 games to 2.

Semi Finals: (Best of 5.)

1)Dominic Froome Versus 5)Eric Chesick:
Eric 4-3, Eric 6-5, Dominic 4-3OT, Dominic 5-2, Eric 4-2. Eric Chesick wins 3 games to 2.

2)Warren Klotz versus 3)Suke Dosanjh:
Warren 5-4, Warren 2-0, Warren 4-3. Warren Klotz wins 3 games to 0.

Gold Medal Series: (Best of 7.)
2)Warren Klotz versus 5)Eric Chesick:
Eric 4-1, Warren 4-0, Warren 5-4, Warren 4-3OT, Warren 5-2. Warren Klotz wins the gold medal in this 2012 VTHC season opener.

GOLD: Warren Klotz. 3 pts.
SILVER: Eric Chesick 2 pts.
BRONZE: Dom Froome & Suke Dosanjh to play best of 3 next league date.

Each player receives a bonus point for attendance. Overal points race looks like this:

Warren Klotz 4 pts
Eric Chesick 3 pts
Dom Froome 1 pt (To play for bronze.)
Suke Dosanjh 1 pt (To play for bronze.)
Alain Limoges 1 pt
Travis Pohl 1 pt
Harvey Yee 1 pt

Goal Scoring Race: (Goals-GFPG)
Warren Klotz 52 - 4.33
Suke Dosanjh 49 - 4.08
Dom Froome 46 - 3.83
Eric Chesick 35 - 2.92
Harvey Yee 29 - 2.42
Travis Pohl 23 - 1.92
Alain Limoges 18 - 1.50

Goaltending Race: (G.A.A.-S.O)
Harvey Yee 2.00 - 1 S.O.
Warren Klotz 2.25 - 3 S.O.
Dom Froome 2.25 - 1 S.O.
Suke Dosanjh 2.42 - 3 S.O.
Eric Chesick 2.92 - 0 S.O.
Travis Pohl 4.17 - 0 S.O.
Alain Limoges 5.00 - 0 S.O.

Quite a day of Stiga battles today. There's some good parity in this group of Stiga players. Both Travis and Alain have potential and with some skills practise can start to become dangerous towards the VTHC Cup playoffs in November. Can they hang in there and weather the storm of early season Stiga losses?

The leap from Stiga novice to Stiga semi pro is one that requires patience. VTHC newbies need to have the character and resilience to stay with this game. Accordingly all players make the playoffs and rookies are welcome anytime to try and become players in our starting line up.

Harvey Yee and Suke Dosanjh looked a bit rusty, early on today, but started to find their timing as the games were played. Stiga is like riding a bike. Once you learn it you'll never be a novice ever again. The higher the level reached then the slower the rate of improvements become too. A new climb is beginning for all of us.

Today's VTHC Player Milestones:
Harvey Yee scored his 1000th career VTHC goal on Stiga.
Warren Klotz won his 500th career VTHC game and also raised his career +/- to over +1200.
Suke Dosanjh won his 200th career VTHC Stiga game and raised his career +/- to over +250.
Travis Pohl wins his first ever VTHC game.

Stay tuned for VTHC May results. Also, for all the latest in the VTHC go to www.vthc.net for detailed stats and information about the Vancouver Table Hockey Club in 2012.

Congrats, Warren, Dominic, and Harvey! Nice to see the league going again! Philippe Majerech, a strong player from Calgary who played in the ETHL and has played in a few Centennials and ASCs, will be in Vancouver in a few weeks. He is going to contact you.

That's some awesome computer software you've got there Warren. I'm sure you'll have no trouble scheduling 12 game round robins for June and beyond! Maybe Coleco Willy too! Wink

I agree, it is awsome. And if you pay for the full version you can upload results after every game. This is especially great for tournaments where people can see the standings and scores updated every five to ten minutes. We did this during the Vancouver King Of Table Hockey in 2006 and maybe we did it in 2004 too, not sure though.

Anyhow, back to the VTHC. I am not posting the schedule as we may be starting earlier which means we can play 3 more games each. That should be confirmed within a few hours. I will call you around 9:30 - 10 to discuss what time we are starting.

Cheers, Warren ... reigning VTHC Gold Medalis!t Flex Laughing

Warren Klotz takes the gold medal for the second consecutive league date! After struggling through the 12 game round robin Klotz (5-6-1) saved his best for last. Playing the upstart Harvey Yee in the gold medal series, today, winning it 4 games to 1.

Harvey Yee, who went 2-10-0 in the round robin, dug deeper defensively in the playoffs, pulling off a seemingly shocking 3 game sweep of Dominic Froome in the Semi Finals. For Froome, who set the pace for goals for and fewest goals against today and led the round robin with a 10-2-0 record, there were no words to say after being swept by the defensively patient Harvey Yee. Yee deploying a slow handed LW to C high and low and scoring quick strikes from missed chances at the other end of the Stiga game.

Suke Dosanjh, who started out the day by winning the Bronze Medal series carry over from April against Dominic Froome 3-1, 3-1 (2 games to 0), was seeded 2nd after the round robin with a 7-5-0 record. Here were all the numbers of todays round robin: (W-L-OTL-PTS-GF-GA-SO)

1)Dom Froome 10-2-0-20-49-25-1
2)Suke Dosanjh 7-5-0-14-39-29-2
3)Warren Klotz 5-6-1-11-31-37-3
4)Harvey Yee 2-10-0-4-21-49-0

Playoff matchups saw 1) Froome versus 4)Yee and also 2)Dosanjh versus 3)Klotz to see which two players would advance to the Gold Medal Series. These series were best of 5. Here's how they played out:

Quarter Finals:
1)Dom Froome versus 4)Harvey Yee
Harvey 4-1, Harvey 3-2, Harvey 2-1. (Harvey wins 3 games to 0.)

2)Suke Dosanjh versus 3)Warren Klotz
Warren 3-2, Warren 3-2, Suke 2-1, Warren 5-3. (Warren wins 3 games to 1.)

Bronze Medal Series: (Best of 3.)
1)Dominic Froome versus 2) Suke Dosanjh.
Dom 7-3, Dom 8-2. Dom Froome wins 2 games to 0.

Gold Medal Series: (Best of 7)
3)Warren Klotz versus 4)Harvey Yee.
Harvey 4-3OT, Warren 3-2, Warren 6-2, Warren 6-1, Warren 8-3. Warren Klotz wins the Gold Medal series 4 games to 1.

Overall Points Won Today: (+ 1 point each for attendance.)
Gold: Warren Klotz (4 points)
Silver: Harvey Yee (3 points)
Bronze: Dom Froome (2 points)
4th Place: Suke Dosanjh ( 1 point)

Overall 2012 Goal Scoring Race: (Goals - GP - GFPG)
1)Dom Froome 95 - 24 - 3.96
2)Suke Dosanjh 88 - 24 - 3.67
3)Warren Klotz 83 - 24 - 3.46
4)Harvey Yee 50 - 24 - 2.08
5)Eric Chesick 35 - 12 - 2.92
6)Travis Pohl 23 - 12 - 1.92
7)Alain Limoges 18 - 12 - 1.50

Overall Goaltending Race: (G.A.A - GA - GP - SO)
1)Dominic Froome 2.17 - 52 - 24 - 2
2)Suke Dosanjh 2.42 - 58 - 24 - 5
3)Warren Klotz 2.67 - 64 - 24 - 6
4)Eric Chesick 2.92 - 35 - 12 - 0
5)Harvey Yee 3.04 - 73 - 24 - 1
6)Travis Pohl 4.17 - 50 - 12 - 0
7)Alain Limoges 5.00 - 60 - 12 - 0

What we saw today was a case of never quit, work hard with and without the puck and save your best for last. (Tournament logic exercised.) The VTHC core 4 discovered how enjoyable these games are to play in VTHC action today. The overall medal points standings are as follows: The medal points standings set the VTHC Cup Playoff seedings for the Cup Clash in November.

(G-S-B)

1)Warren Klotz 8 points (2-0-0)
2)Harvey Yee 4 points (0-1-0)
3)Eric Chesick 3 points (0-1-0)
4)Dom Froome 3 points (0-0-1)
5)Suke Dosanjh 3 points (0-0-1)
6)Travis Pohl 1 point (0-0-0)
7)Alain Limoges 1 point (0-0-0)

Today's VTHC Player Milestones:
Dominic Froome won his 300th VTHC game all time and raised his career +/- to over +400.
Suke Dosanjh won his 250th VTHC game all time.

Any players interested in becoming VTHC members can contact us via the Club web site at www.vthc.net .

Hey Travis, I thought you weren't coming out again. Unless of course you are a different Travis then came out last month. Either way, if you wish to join us in June please email me at info@vthc.net

Thanks Dom for the great stats. The web site is now updated with

Congrats to Harv on a fine playoff, Dom on a great round robin and
Suke, well for just being hard to beat.

You think Froome has anything to do with these numbers? The stats are all correct except for your shutout count for the day. I posted 2 and you actually did have 3. (6 shutouts for the season.) Glad you caught that Warren. VTHC Web site looks awesome! Compliments the efforts of writing up the latest TH stories from Vancouver too.

It's good to hear from you Travis. I'll add that these Stiga games can take a while to see a player improve. But improve is all a player will do if he plays tougher opponents. I'm sure all of the VTHCers will offer you great tips if you hang in there with the VTHC. Give Warren a shout and "Let 'em know yer there!"

Friday night saw a guest Stiga player enjoy a mini round robin and playoffs with VTHC #1 ranked Warren Klotz and VTHC #4 ranked Dominic Froome. The guest? Philippe Majerech. A Stiga player who plays his Stiga battles in and around Edmonton with Reggie, Kent and the boys.

Philippe Majerech is also ranked 815th in the World via the ITHF rankings. He's one of the stronger players in the Edmonton Table Hockey League and finished 3rd, out of 22 players, in the 2011 Edmonton Centennial.

The opportunity to play new and experienced players is also a great way to find new ideas on how to play the Stiga game. We embarked on playing an 8 games per player round robin. Here were the numbers and nobody got shut out all night in both the round robin and the playoffs.

Round Robin Results: (W-L-OTL-PTS-GF-GA)

1)Dominic Froome 6-2-0-12-29-20
2)Philippe Majerech 3-4-1-7-21-22
3)Warren Klotz 3-5-0-6-25-33

Round robin notes: Froome, who seems to be all about round robins, beats Klotz in four straight games. (5-4, 5-2, 5-3 & 6-2.) Amazingly in round robins and tonight Froome's overall 2012 round robins record is 24-5-3. (Tonight's games do not count in the overall VTHC standings.) However in playoff games, including tonight, Froome's a lowly 4-12-.250. The playoff struggles are a mental block that needs to be figured out.

Warren Klotz has been the complete opposite to date. He's been a force in VTHC playoff games. (Winning two golds and going 19-7-.731 in playoff games, (including tonight's), but 16-13-3 in round robins + tonight's exhibition round robin.)

Philippe Majerech, who enjoyed a cold beer with Froome after tonight's Stiga battles explained to Froome that he's a student of positive thinking. He explained that Froome actually sabotaged himself more than he did during the night's Finals series.

With negative thoughts associated to recent playoff struggles in the VTHC 2012 season Majerech pointed out how Froome referenced the May 20th playoff series against Harvey Yee as a similar series to the one he was playing tonight. (Combining a losing experience to the moment of each game of tonight's series and draining any positive and free flowing creative plans of attack and slot smarts in the process when down early in games.)

The mental toughness of playoff Stiga Table Hockey is the obstacle that Froome needs to figure out and conquer in order for the 2012 season to include any hopes of hoisting the VTHC Cup. Klotz, however had a positive out look on his Semi Finals series and was able to dig deep and try to do the unthinkable. Come back from a 3 games to 0 deficit. Here were the scores of Majerech and Klotz in the Semi Finals;

Phil 4-3OT, Phil 6-2, Phil 3-1, Warren 4-3OT, Warren 5-4, Phil 7-4.

This series featured a 3 minute overtime marathon in game 1. Also facing series defeat Warren won game 4 in OT with a very nice RW to C low tip play that was "nothing but net!" Klotz never trailed game 5 with 1 or 2 goal leads all the way. Game 6 saw Philippe break down Warren's momentary box defence with three goals that saw RW shots hit the open short side with the LD out of shot blocking range, at just the right moment, each time and the goalie centered in the net.

Philippe showed how tough he is, mentally, and explained how powerful the mind can sway Stiga table hockey results during a post Stiga beer. He never lost confidence and maintained a positive & fun loving attitude all through the round robin and saved his best for last. The Final's series went like this:

Phil 3-2, Phil 4-1, Phil 5-1, Phil 3-1. (A 4 games to 0 sweep of Froome.)

Froome, a jeckyl and hyde playoff mystery that seems to have lost an ability to win any crucial front line playoff series in 2012. The problem is 100% mental. The only other challenge mentally being that a top seed often has to wait for his first playoff series to start. (Tonight was no exception as Froome waited nearly one hour to begin playoff action.)

The process of unravelling these negative thoughts, of recent playoff faliures past, the obstacle to tear apart with newer thoughts of why he can be and is a very talented player. If a player can beat Warren Klotz in 4 out of 4 round robin games then somthing has to be going well and some talent must be credible and able to support some strong playoff showings in the future. (Froome and Klotz have yet to do battle in any 2012 VTHC playoff series.) Maybe it will happen in June.

A great night of games tonight. Philippe Majerech is welcome to join the VTHC any time. All he has to do is move to Vancouver and give Warren a call. The VTHC is a group of TH players that love table hockey, respect their opponents and offer sportsmanship associated with all wins and losses. Philipe Majerech is all of this and more. And he's full value for the 815th ranking in the world on Stiga.

Great stats and recap Dom!

That was a fun night of TH. Philippe played a good solid game all
night where I started slow and saved my best for last, which was
too little too late. Which was fine, it was good to play and chat
TH and also great to see Philippe again.

By the way, you will break that early season playoff slump
you are in. Yes a positive attitude and self talk will go a long
way to supporting an already strong Stiga game that you possess.
You will become the iceman again... except against me lol.

You guys are just geting started! Thanks for hosting an interesting table hockey exhibition on Friday! Great time! The "Ice Man" was a Froome nickname for a reason too. I think he needs need to get back to that!

P.S. Need any help with the games, moving forward, then give me a shout. I can offer up a bit of cash for maintenance issues. Cool

VTHC rookie development began for future VTHCer Paul Lobley. Paul's got what it takes to absorb some losses on the road to becoming a Stiga player in Vancouver. Hosting Dominic Froome, a Stiga game stabilized on bottle caps and double sided tape in the house, Paul played his first 4 formal and CD timed Stiga games. All games conducted like a VTHC date would have it.

June 9th, 2012:

Paul showed that he can play some defence and in time will develop an offensive attack. (A good punch in boxing circles.) Here were the scores:

Froome 5-0, Froome 3-0, Froome 7-0, Froome 3-0.

Paul's going to buy a Stiga game (RMG) and he's got some friends, including a couple of former VTHLers in Rick Thompson and Chris Varila, who can come over and start improving Paul's skills on the Stiga game. Froome explained some of the Stiga ropes, today, and some of the mental aspects of both offensive and defensive Stiga table hockey strategies.

With a Stiga game, at home, a player can practise and also invite others to do battle regularly. Paul will begin his climb to becoming a competitive player in the very near future. Much of it by the guidance of Froome who lives in the same apartment building. Paul's also slated to compete for at very least a bronze medal on June 17th as a guest of the VTHC. Trying to up end Travis Pohl who'll be on hand to compete in his second VTHC Club date of his season. June 17th a VTHC date that'll see both Harvey Yee and Suke Dosanjh absent for family reasons.

June 15th & 16th, 2012:

Paul played Froome on Friday night and also received his new Stiga game via RMG earlier that day. Scores went as follows:

Froome 4-0, Froome 4-0, Froome 4-0, Froome 5-1, Froome 3-0, Froome 7-0, Froome 5-1, Froome 5-0. Scoring goals starting to become an understood issue moving into Saturday where Paul had his buddy Martin Babak over along with Froome to practise some more for the June 17th VTHC date. First they played a couple of games:

Martin defeated Paul 2-0. Then Froome defeated Martin 8-0. After this warm up the three played a mini round robin and playoffs:

Mini round robin numbers looked like this:
(W L OTL PTS GF GA SO)

1)Froome 6-0-0-12-36-03-4
2)Lobley 3-3-0-6-09-20-3
3)Babak 0-5-1-1-00-22-0

Practise Playoffs saw 2)Lobley play 3)Babak in a best of 3.

Lobley 6-0, Babak 2-1OT, Lobley 3-0. (Lobley finding some scoring touch winning it 2 games to 1.)

Then 1)Froome played 2)Lobley in the best of 3 training Finals series:

Froome 3-1, Froome 4-1. Dom wins 2 games to 0.

Paul understands that it's a long road to become a top Stiga player. He's already improving and the rate of improvements are the most rapid when a player is just beginning to play the Stiga Table Hockey game. Paul Lobley gets his first taste of VTHC TH on June 17th.

I love Dom's articles. Thought I'd try my hand at some shameless, self promotion.

Langley, BC - After finishing sixth and being dominated by the elite veterans of the VTHC in its season opener questions swirled about prospect, Travis Pohl and his future in the VTHC. Competitive Stiga hockey takes dedication, practice and resilience and it’s too often the case that new comers become easily discouraged with the learning curve and the piling losses that ensue. Some thought they’d seen the last of Travis as a VTHC competitor but as the saying goes, the details of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Missing the second meeting due to a prior engagement, Travis let it be heard loud and clear that he would be returning for the June meeting. Putting the bad taste of defeat behind him, Travis explained the experience of his debut in April, “I just wasn’t prepared for what was in front of me. I’m quite familiar with the Stiga game but hadn’t played it in some time.” Experience played a big factor, Travis recalls being caught up in the moment, “I definitely had a case of the jitters early on, particularly. I had a hard time finding my game but that had a lot to do with the step up in competition.” With a tremendous record in the amateur exhibition table hockey scene, Travis feels great respect for his fellow VTHC combatants, he had this to say about the play of his opponents, “Speed kills. I had hard time keeping up with the top guys. I new I’d be facing a challenge but they were good. Really good. It was humbling. But the challenge of playing these guys more often will only benefit my skill set.”

In preparation for June 17th, Travis has found a training partner out in Langley and has been meeting weekly to sharpen his skills on the Stiga game. On top of that, as the father of two, Travis feels he has some extra motivation come the 17th, “My kids are planning a ‘Champion’s Breakfast’ for me in the morning and then I plan to bring home some VTHC hardware, to complete a great fathers day!” We’ll see if that positive incentive will indeed add up to “W’s” when the VTHC meets for the third time this season.[/list]
