Hello all. Excited about Kevin's tournament on Saturday.

I will try to post a notice in this thread when I know what time the live stream will start so you can watch it if you'd like. We're on Pacific Coast Time, so I'm going to guess playoff streaming will start at 4 p.m. local time/6 Central/7 Eastern, but check back here for the green light.

The place to watch is here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/erickr88

Good luck to all tomorrow -- especially to the ETHL trio!

By my rough count I have played against 11 of the players signed up:

- 3 ETHLers
- 3 Centennial visitors (Eric, Tom and *Kevin R)
- 5 from my only out-of-Edmonton tournament (Vegas in Oct 2011) (Pierre, Roman, Jay, John and Bill)

*Kevin R was also in Vegas, but I played him earlier in Edmonton.

Ok, I have to admit I'm quite bored tonight so I came up with the list to entertain myself.

Looking forward to checking out some streaming video -- as long as i can remember that is.

Long post. Be patient. Lots of great information.

Thanks to all of the players who participated. It was great!

UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT VIII

January 24, 2015
Anaheim Hills, California

REGGIE BEATS ROMAN, FOUR GAMES TO ONE, TO WIN STANLEY CUP!!!

The same two players from last time faced-off against each other again in the Championship Final for the Stanley Cup of Table Hockey at the UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT VIII in Anaheim Hills, California.

This time, Reggie Stefaniszyn (Canada) defeated Roman Nezhyba (Czech Republic) four games to one to win the Stanley Cup of Table Hockey –- avenging his seven-game loss to Roman last time out, after holding a 3-1 lead in the best of seven Final series.

Reggie, from Edmonton, Alberta, the #1 table hockey player in North America, won his fifth Stanley Cup of Table Hockey in six trips to southern California. Roman’s win last year broke Reggie’s streak of four straight Stanley Cups.

Reggie has been on fire on the tournament circuit over the past year. Since last January, check out the career-year Reggie is having while playing the game he loves -- table hockey:
January 2014: Champion at Stiga Las Vegas (Jean-Claude Klaus)
February 2014: Champion at the Alberta Championships (Kent Richter)
March 2014: Third place at the Stiga North American Championships (Bruce Turner)
May 2014: Champion at the Canadian Masters (Eric Desjardins)
July 2014: Champion at the Stiga U.S. Open (Eric Davis)
September 2014: Second place at the Edmonton Centennial Challenge (Bjarne Axelsen)
October 2014: Champion at the Stiga Mississippi Valley Open (Eric Davis)
November 2014: Champion at the Canada Cup (Alain Gamache)
January 2015: Champion at the UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT (Roman Nezhyba)

Reggie’s 7 tournament championships in the past 13 months can actually increase to 8 next Saturday, the last day of January, at the Alberta Championships, at the West Edmonton Mall.

Reggie’s Stanley Cup victory last night over Roman Nezhyba was all the more amazing –- given the fact that Reggie faced major travel problems and very little sleep. On the eve of the tournament, Reggie’s origination flight from Edmonton to Calgary experienced mechanical problems shortly after take-off and needed to return to Edmonton. After several hours, Reggie was able to finally catch a flight from Edmonton to Vancouver, B.C. for a first-flight-out in the morning to Los Angeles. Reggie had to try to catch some sleep in the Vancouver airport before his 6:00 a.m.-ish flight to LAX. To expedite his late arrival to the start of the UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT VIII -- Mrs. Rafferty kindly picked-up Reggie at the curb at LAX at 9:10 a.m. -- and then whisked him the 40 freeway miles to the tournament venue in Anaheim Hills.

After 30 pre-playoff games, Reggie entered the post-season as the #2 ranked player at the tournament. Roman was #1. In round robin play prior to the playoffs, Roman very convincingly won both head-to-head games against Reggie, 7-2 and 5-1.

In Game One the Stanley Cup Final, Reggie stunned Roman with an amazing come-from-behind victory in OT. Nezhyba led the opening game 2-1 and was seemingly in control from the start. Miraculously, Reggie scored a desperation, nearly rink-long goal from his defenseman -- one second before the buzzer sounded! Then, in OT, after winning the opening face-off, Reggie scored on his first possession on a well-executed centrifuge. Roman never touched the puck in OT.

With the momentum swing, Reggie capitalized and won Game Two and Game Three by one-goal margins, 2-1 and 4-3, to go up three games to none. Trying to emulate the defending NHL Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings -- trailing the series, down 0-3 -- Roman set his sights on making a complete comeback run to win the Cup. Roman spanked Reggie in Game 4, with a dominating 7-1 win.

Reggie did not allow a repeat comeback to happen this time.

In Game Five, Reggie and Roman played to a 2-2 tie in regulation. In a fairly lengthy OT, Reggie scored the Cup-winning goal in a highly unlikely manner. With the puck behind his own net, the puck along the boards, Reggie aggressively twisted his left defenseman -- surprising even himself -- as the puck crazily whipped around the boards and somehow bounced into the net. It was a rather stunning and unexpected end to the Stanley Cup Final.

It was a fantastic Final and a great day for table hockey all the way around!

Fellow Edmonton Table Hockey League (ETHL) player, Kent Richter, the #2 ranked player in North America, won the third place trophy over Eric Krol from suburban Chicago.

Three players from the ETHL made the trip to Anaheim. All three went home with trophies. ETHLer Matt Alden, in his first tournament outside of Alberta, won the Group B Championship in seven games over John Labianca from Las Vegas. Matt jumped out to a 3-0 series lead. Johnny Labs battled back to tie the series 3-3 and force a deciding Game Seven. Matt won Game Seven, 4-2.

Pierre Chastentais, from Montreal, Quebec, won the Third Place trophy over Kevin Williams from Detroit. All four tournament players who made the trip from Canada went home with trophy hardware from the USA.

Kevin Williams shot lots of video at the tournament. Famous for CAGA-Vision, look for Kevin’s video posts once he has a chance to edit and add graphics.

Up-and-coming southern California table hockey player, talented 13 year-old, Brandon Mann -- who received a Stiga game for Christmas and absolutely loves playing -- won the Group C Championship. Another good player, just ten years old, Riley Jussaume from Los Angeles took home the Second Place trophy. Both Brandon and Riley were playing in their first tournament, but you wouldn’t have known it. They played very well and bested many adult players.

The current #5-ranked Junior player in the USA, Dylan Oliver from southern California, won the Group C Third Place trophy with a win over Bruce Mann for Orange County.

Two table hockey players from Beijing, China won trophies in Group D. Fifth grade student, Jimmy Liang, from China, won the Championship trophy with a Final series win over fellow fifth grader, Lukas Lin, from Anaheim. Jimmy’s father, Peter Liang, won the Third Place trophy in Group D. The Liang’s attend my school and participate in our once-a-month table hockey tournaments at our campus whenever they can.

In all, 31 table hockey players took part in the best tournament held in southern California so far, the UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT VIII.

Our FREE monthly tournaments continue at Fairmont Private School, Anaheim Hills.
One Saturday per month from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Trophy awarded to the top player of the day.

Thank you to Dr. Kevin Rafferty for putting on a great event. A very good vibe in the room...experienced players giving tips to the enthusiastic, young new players. A good setup to watch the finals (some elevated seating on either side) and things ran smoothly. And it was nice to see the newer players get fired up for the C and D group playoffs. They fought hard for those trophies.

UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT

Table Hockey Championship Tournament
Saturday, January 23, 2016
Anaheim Hills, California
It will be a great day for table hockey!

Stanley Cup of Table Hockey
The tournament champion will have his/her name engraved on the base of the Stanley Cup.

UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT #9
All the way from Denmark to play, Bjarne Axelsen and Anette Engel are currently vacationing in the great state of California.

Transplanted Czech Republic table hockey wizard Roman Nezhyba and American expert Steve Bernstein from Massachusetts will be here, along with our table hockey buddies from Las Vegas -- we hope -- John Labianca, Jay Petrick, and Bill McNeill.

We're coming down to the wire. There's still time to throw your hat into the rink. Registration closes on Wednesday. To register, email me at kevin.n.rafferty@gmail.com

Special Prize:
All tournament players are automatically entered into a raffle for a chance to win a brand new STIGA Playoff table hockey game, courtesy of our good friend Phil Hamilton at TableHockeyGames.com

Trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each of four skill-level divisions.
Beginners are welcome and encouraged to play.
This tournament will quite literally feature players from age 6 to 60+

Philosophy on Table Hockey
Over the years, serving as a school principal. my philosophical approach is to introduce the great game of table hockey to our youth and get them excited about playing; to re-introduce table hockey to people who have played over the years and get them back into the game they loved to play; and to encourage current players to continue playing and serving as ambassadors for table hockey.

Playing in a table hockey tournament is a great way to do just that...plus it's a ton of fun!

We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.

Bjarne vs. Roman in the finals.

Steve B. vs. Anette for 3rd.

Bjarne beat Steve in the semis

It was a great day for table hockey, indeed!

Roman Nezhyba (CZE) sent shock waves through the table hockey world as he defeated Bjarne Axelsen (DEN) in seven games to win the tournament championship at the UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT in Anaheim!!!

Here's a breakdown of the exciting seven game final series:
Bjarne 5-2
Bjarne 5-2
Roman 3-2 in OT
Roman 7-4
Roman 6-3
Bjarne 3-1
Roman 6-3

To put this amazing win into perspective:

Axelsen was playing in his 831st table hockey hockey tournament. He is currently ranked #68 in the world by the International Table Hockey Federation (ITHF).

Nezhyba is a relative newcomer to Stiga table hockey. This was only his 13th table hockey tournament. Roman played in his first tournament in Las Vegas in 2009. Coming into yesterday's tournament, Nezhyba was ranked #497.

This was only the second time that Bjarne has NOT won the championship in a tournament that he's entered in North America -- that's 21 tournaments in all. The first blemish: Axlesen finished in 3rd place in Las Vegas in 2010 to Sweden's Lars Fridell (1) and Pontus Eriksson (2).

Here's the complete order of finish for the 29 players who competed in the UNITED STATES STATES STIGA Table Hockey Tournament 2016:

CHAMPION: Roman Nezhyba, Sumperk, Czech Republic
2nd Place: Bjarne Axelsen, Bronderslev, Denmark
3rd Place: Anette Engel, Bronderslev, Denmark
4. Steve Bernstein, Framingham, Massachusetts
5. Kevin Rafferty, Laguna Hills, California
6. Brian Rafferty, San Diego, California
7. Kelly Rafferty, Lake Barrington, Illinois
8. Larry Thompson, West Covina, California

B Group Champion: Darryl Oliver, Costa Mesa, California (#9)
2nd Place: Calvin Vician, Fullerton, California (#10)
3rd Place: Kael Mai, Anaheim Hills, California (#11)
12. Kamran Maghzi, Orange, California
13. Ryan Le, Anaheim Hills, California
14. Nicholas Dorgan, Orange, California
15. Taede Mai, Anaheim Hills, California
16. Keyvan Maghzi, Orange, California

C Group Champion: Dylan Oliver, Costa Mesa, California (#17)
2nd Place: Andrew Spallone, Costa Mesa, California #18
3rd Place: Cruz Fineman, Yorba Linda, California (#19)
20. Aiden Spallone, Costa Mesa, California
21. Landon Stein, Costa Mesa, California
22. Amelia Lesser, Anaheim, California
23. Aaidan Echanique, Riverside, California

D Group Champion: Ethan Wei, Placentia, California (#24)
2nd Place: Rachel Dorgan, Orange, California (#25)
3rd Place: Malia Mai, Anaheim Hills, California (#26)
27. Salem Younes, Anaheim, California
28. Christopher Younes, Anaheim, California
29. Caden Oliver, Costa Mesa, California

Thank you to all of the players who participated.

We have already identified the date for next year's tournament in Anaheim:
Saturday, January 28, 2017
That is the weekend sandwiched in between the NFL Conference Championships and the Super Bowl.

To make next year's tournament even better, the UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT has just been added to the ITHF World Tour -- Anaheim will now be one of the six "major" tournaments in North America!!!

Consider this your invitation to factor Anaheim into your travel tournament plans for 2017.

As the new President of the United States Table Hockey Association, I want to wish everyone in the USA a Happy Thanksgiving!

To all of our Canadian friends, I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving last month.

Next stop on the World Tour in North America:
Consider this your invitation to play table hockey at the 10th United States STIGA Shootout on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in Anaheim.

That’s the weekend in between the NFL Conference Championship games and the Super Bowl. Hoping our table hockey friends from Las Vegas can make it to Anaheim. (How about the new NHL expansion team: Vegas Golden Knights)

Big-time hockey fans might want to play in the table hockey tournament on Saturday and then go to the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday afternoon just up the freeway in Los Angeles.

With Christmas and the Winter Holidays fast approaching, give yourself the gift of a travel table hockey tournament! By the end of January you’ll probably welcome the opportunity to get out of the snow and cold.

Fingers are crossed hoping that Reggie and Kent will make the trip from Edmonton.

Roman Nezhyba will be returning to defend his championship! Last year, Roman defeated Bjarne Axelsen in a thrilling seven-game Final.

Whose name will be engraved on the Stanley Cup of Table Hockey this year?

See the tentative player list at TableHockeyRocks.com

Registration is super-easy. Click here to go onto Scorpion. Select the United States STIGA Shootout. Or send me an email at: kevin.n.rafferty@gmail.com

January 28, 2017 will be a great day for table hockey!
Hope you can join us!

Let's get ready to rumble!

Canada's #1-ranked Bernie Kunzler will make the trip to Anaheim to challenge the USA's #1-ranked Roman Nezhyba!

Will Bruce Turner make the trip with Bernie?

Roman is the defending champion of the UNITED STATES STIGA SHOOTOUT. Last January, Roman defeated Bjarne Axelsen from Denmark in a dramatic seven-game Final.

Give yourself the gift of a travel table hockey tournament. Make plans to get out of your arctic blast winter and come out to sunny Southern California!
