Hello fellow US Stiga table hockey players. The United States Table Hockey Association is holding an election for the organization's board. The process will unfold much like the last time we held an election.

***********************

*What's on the ballot: USTHA president and up to six board positions.

*Eligibility to run: Players from the USA who have played in a Stiga tournament that's part of the North American ranking system the past two years (August 2014-present) are eligible to run, nominate others, and vote. USTHA board members and USA folks with up-to-date paid memberships also are eligible to run, nominate and vote.

*Voting eligibility: Any USA player who has played in a North American tournament the past two years of the rolling calendar (August 2014 to present). You only get one vote, no matter how many tournaments you may have played in.

*We're taking nominations for candidates. You can certainly nominate yourself.

*Please send your nominations in by Friday, Sept. 9.

*The e-mail address to send nominations to: usthaelections@gmail.com

*Geographical considerations: in the interests of geographical balance, there's a maximum of two people from each city/region that can serve on the board at once. The idea is to ensure that no one area can dominate an issue and that balance will bring consensus in decision-making. The geographic limit applies to both board members and the president's position. So if the president is from Town A, for example, only one of the board members can be from Town A. That said, there's no limit on the number of people from a geographic area that can be nominated and run. Should more than two people from the same city get elected, only the top two vote getters would be seated, and the board position would fall to the candidate with the next-best vote total.

*After the nomination e-mails have been filed, the USTHA board will contact the nominees and ask each of them if they are interested in running for the position(s) they were nominated for. The goal is to complete the ballot by Friday, Sept. 16.

*Nominees who want to run will then be asked to send a short statement outlining their goals for the USTHA if they are elected. Are there special projects you want to work on or areas of expertise you bring to the table? Let the voters know.

*Nominees will have two weeks to get their statements in. Let's get those done by Friday, Sept. 30.

*Voting: a ballot will be created and be e-mailed out to all USTHA members (or held electronically on a secure web site). The ballot will list the choices for president (vote for 1) and board members (vote for up to six) and the candidate statements will appear. The goal will be to finish balloting by mid-October.

Sincerely,

The USTHA Board

Wanted to announce that I have decided not to run for USTHA president. Ten years is a long time, and the organization could benefit from new blood.

Happy to have helped get some tournaments started with hard-working organizers, continued the already-successful Detroit tournament, started the social media pages for the organization, and kept the web sites and ranking system updated. Glad to have worked with so many people who are dedicated to preserving our great hobby of table hockey. Most of all, proudest that issues, when there were any, were settled in level-headed, reasonable ways.

I do plan to run for a board spot and help with the transition to the new president.

The United States Table Hockey Association is proud to announce our new president and board members. Dr. Kevin Rafferty of Laguna Hills, CA is the new president. Kevin is a longtime table hockey enthusiast and top Stiga player who puts on the Stiga Shootout event in southern California each year and does a fantastic job promoting the game to youth players.

The board will be made up of six people: Eric Krol, the former USTHA president from suburban Chicago; Darwin Sampson, who runs the Madison, Wisc. tournament; Steve Junge, who organizes the Iowa tournament; Len Mecca, who put on the Philadelphia event and supports table hockey at Rodwarniors.com; Dean Moore, a veteran of many tournaments from Pittsburgh; and John Labianca, who is part of the Las Vegas Table Hockey Club.

The president and board members will start in their new roles Oct. 1. The USTHA would like to thank outgoing board members Jim Rzonca, Paul Ruiz, Eric Dibacco and Mike Horan for their years of service.
