Opening day for the New York City Table Hockey Association Classic League is Saturday October 6, 2007. We begin the first round robin at 11:30AM. Two round robins are mandatory and the third is optional.
We play on the custom coleco 5380/S-slot defense. This season we will be playing five minute-stop time matches with refs in a two division format: after the first round robin, players will be put in a division with other players of similar experience and skill level.
Please visit the New York City Table Hockey Association website for information about the NYCTHA Classic league--including photos and stats.
http://www.nyctha.us
Email me to sign up and I will send you a copy of the rules and the format. Also, all players who show up for opening day will be given a DVD of the coleco champs!

New York City Table Hockey Association Classic league opening day is next Saturday, Oct. 6th and not a minute too soon for me.
I've been all over the map lately, and am so glad that this weekend I will get a chance to play some top-notch table hockey on my own turf!
We start the season 11:30AM Sharp at the Aviator complex in Brooklyn. New rules, new format--more friendly for the recreational player--but same old fun.
Who wants to play table hockey this Saturday in Brooklyn NY? Let me know and let the good times roll!

Some news just in to NYCTHA headquarters is that Central Pennsylvania Table Hockey Champion Steve Dowell has decided to raid the NYCTHA Classic league for a few dates this season . . . .
well, well, well. This puts a whole new perspective on things. ( You see, Steve defeated me in the CPTHL finals on my game (custom coleco) in 2007 .) Another rival has chosen to support us (Adam Z. will be with us also). Where oh where are Sierak and Miller ?
The NYCTHA is thrilled at the news and welcomes the classy and skilled CPTHL Champ. Your competitive spirit and genuine sportsmanship makes the Classic league even more valuable for each of our players. Thanks Steve and good luck!

So John, how is opening day shaping up as far as numbers go? Will openning day see more competitors than last year? Exciting times with only a few days left before a new season. Have a great time and best of luck.

Just a quality day of competition at NYCTHA Classic League Opening day, as old rivalries picked up where they left off and new ones were born.
First off, the NYCTHA was proud to present its newest member: A Rich Thill Custom Vintage 5380 game that made its debut at the US Coleco Open in Lemont in July. This game has metal boards, a brand new surface, is fast, smooth and is the best looking game I've ever seen. Custom stickers including the NYCTHA logo on the surface and along the stand: Photos at NYCTHA site.
Five passionate players converged on the mezzanine at the Aviator Sports and Recreation complex and just bashed each others' skulls in for three round robins.
Right off the bat, a very very hungry Roger Owens (fresh off his top ten finish at the NYCTHA International Classic) bloodied Lou Marinoff 6-2. Then Roger took his lumps as some chump named JP got lucky in the season's first OT match. Lou suffered a second loss to Roger in round two, 4-3, as Roger took command going into the 3rd round robin.
Roger was 7-1 going in to the 3rd round robin, while Lou was 6-3 and feeling the heat (in 100 matches last season, he had lost 3 times: 3 loses in one day at the NYCTHA was more than he could stand).
But the NYCTHA isn't about the past--its all about the present BABY! The rest of the players kicked it up a notch and the next thing you know Roger lost three in a row to fall into third place--but wait, the day is not over yet: there is one match to go.
Adam Z was havin' a tough day. But he still had to play JP. In a vicious slamfest, Adam tied it up late 1-1. JP was 2-0 in OT on this day thus far; Adam poured it on in the OT, but JP hung on barely to salvage the point, but was kicked down to third place.
It was just a blast my friends.
NYCTHA Classic League Date II is Saturday November 3rd. Word to the wise: PRACTICE!

I can't wait to get started in this fantastically assembled league. With hard rocking players like Lou Marinoff, Roger Owens, John Power, Adam Zawislak, and others, this league is a whole other level of play. Defensively the only plan when playing these guys is to just stop the bleeding in your own half of the ice as much as possible! It's without a doubt going to be a keen learning experience but, New York is a great place to be and a great place to play. I'm gearing up guys! |

The New York City Table Hockey Association Classic League is excited to welcome John Labianca --stiga player extraordinaire and beer league goalie--will be joining us for NYCTHA Classic League Date II Saturday November 3rd at the Aviator Sports and Recreation Complex in Brooklyn NY
Labs got me and Lou tickets to the Wranglers game after AJ's awesome Vegas Coleco Tournament and we had a blast. Hearing Lou and John talk hockey while I sampled the ample beer selection at the Wranglers game (great arena!) was a terrific ending to a great Vegas trip last January.
We are expecting 12 players on the 3rd, including players from Philadelphia and New Bloomfield PA. Its gonna be a series of dogfights so intense that Michael Vick is going to be taking bets from his mansion in West Virginia
The NYCTHA is happy to welcome any and all comers! Thanks Labs for coming out to NYC for the first time since 1993 to play table hockey at the NYCTHA. Now there is a smart man!

Smart man indeed John.
Happy to see that numbers are on the up and up as was the case during last season. Keep up the great work my friend and a million thanks for the DVD. I appreciate it much more than you think. That 2nd game of the finals is one for the books and thanks to you, I was able to re-live it and not from a partially out of body experience as was the case while I was playing it!!!!

Thanks Johnny, the new ones are even better! We have improved on 5 different aspects, as small as they may be in details they improve on a whole bunch of things! Cut the holes were the puck goes in the net flush to the bottom of the net so to prevent in and outs from the puck hitting the wood, no more dead zone behind the net, a whole new dimension to the game, reducing the space 1/16" on each side between the wingers and the boards so the puck doesn't tend to curve towards the boards thus easier to make spin around shoots, different method of sticking the 1/2" boards together with the 1/8" to optimize the solidity and straigtness and last but not least, bringing the right "D" as far as possible in back of the net without the plastic base falling in the crack and making the left "D" cover the rest of the space behind the net.
As Nuggs said, he learned and improved 100% from his first game and is on his 3rd or 4th game, I am now over 50 boards done and still we are refinning and fine tuning every little detail I can find to offer the best possible board. That's 99% of the fun.
PS: If you have a little time I would love for you to send me a Pic of which game it is you have at my e-mail: carlobossio@hotmail.com. Also to Neil, 1: Hope you are doing well as it is a long while I havn't heard from you? I am looking forward to those pics of your upgraded esthectic's of your board.

The New York City Table Hockey Association has found a new home:
Peggy O'Neill's in historic Coney Island;
http://www.peggyoneills.com
Located about 200 yards from the "Original" Nathan's Hot dog restaurant, Peggy O'Neill's is attached to the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team (Keyspan Ballpark). Just around the corner is the Coney Island boardwalk and the 277-foot tall Parachute jump (a historic landmark in NY City).
Peggy O'Neill's is right off the Belt Parkway and the last stop on the N,R, and Q trains:
1904 Surf Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11224 (follow signs for Keyspan Park).
Melissa, our hostess, is an old pro at hosting leagues--mostly darts--and is looking forward to seeing what table hockey is all about.
By the way, Lou Marinoff has accepted my challenge for a best of three series, the loser has to pick up the tab at Nathans' . . . who will win the hot dogs . . . . ?
See you all on Saturday November 3rd. We are expecting a huge turnout and will also be having our first Friendship Cup series!

The NYCTHA Classic League will be hosting Date III Saturday December 8th, 11:30AM at Peggy O'Neill's in Coney Island (which really isn't an island by the way).
Guy Mason from Toronto will be traveling in to play some custom coleco against fellow Canadian Lou Marinoff and the rest of the boys . . . . there also might be a pair of brothers out of Montreal, friends of Lou's since the 1970's when he was tearing up the Montreal League--Sam and Phil A.
NYCTHA Vintage League Opening date has been pushed back to 2008 due to a lack of players stepping up. We have great custom built 5340s (three of them with another one to arrive in January) and a venue, now all we need is for players to sign up and show up. Lets get this party started!
Finally, there is a new kid in town--a custom WTHA Style munro game, courtesy of Dwayne Stegner--one of nature's noble men. Dwayne worked hard to get us a game here in NY and we are most grateful to him for it. Now all we need are some players.
Its pathetic how in a city of 8 million people you have to pull teeth to get some table hockey players together.

Hi John,
Stay positive and keep it going man. I know you will.
I noticed that Peggy O'Neill's web site has a "Special Events" Section. Any chance you can get them to add your meeting dates to their web site? If they have to pay someone to add it to the web site, I'd volunteer to add your info to their site for no cost.
