The ETHL kicks off a new season this Saturday, October 13 at Schanks Sports Bar in west Edmonton. First pucks drop at 11:40 am.

17 confirmations so far for this weekend. Another 8 have said they will be in the league this year and I'm still waiting to hear from 4 others, so we should be in the 25-29 member range this year.

It should be another fun TH season!

17 participants for ETHL #1 2007-08 today at Schanks Sports Bar. Thanks to Will Wong, here are today's results. We are giving a point for OTL this year.

Tim Dyck From Calgary had to leave early, so his 3 remaining games will be made up next league date.

Looks like we'll have about a 20 member A pool and a 7 member B pool, although this may change, since, in the past few days, 5 others have requested info about the league.

Here are the Week 1 standings and stats, pending completion of 3 make-up games:

Tie-break: 1) Points 2) Wins 3) Head-to-Head 4) Overall +/-

Thanks to Will and Reggie for providing these stats so quickly. Based on these records, it looks like you big guns of the ETHL picked up where you had left off at last month's Centennial. No surprise here.

Cheers

Wish I could have been there, it looks like the only date i can make until January is the November 3 rd meeting. The weekend of nov. 17 i'm leaving for cuba and every weekend in December is already booked. Crying or Very sad Oh well, the DVTHA might be popping up in the near future. Wink

Unfortunately it is not a joke. Just too many other things on the go and the kids are in skating lessons every saturday morning. Normally my wife could take them when the dates conflicted with the ETHL schedule however she has to work on Nov 3rd so i'll be busy with the kids, which is a good thing. Also we fly out for cuba the weekend of Nov 17th so i'll miss that date as well. Then the next date is Dec 8th for the ETHL and we already have a early Family Christmas function to go to. Actually every weekend in December is full already. So hopefully when January rolls around things will slow down somewhat for me to be able to make some ETHL outings. I'm thinking about using the Oilers 3rd jersey NHL'ers that Lyle made me a couple of seasons ago.

Congrats to Amandeep Minhas, who has been voted "Most Improved Player" of the ETHL for the 2006-07 season. Amandeep won the C pool Championship in 2005-06 and made it to the B pool semi-finals in 2006-07.

For the third consecutive year, we needed a runoff vote - this time amongst 3 players. The voting results:

First Round

Amandeep Minhas - 4
Dwayne Pankiw - 4
Mike Moore - 4
Thomas Hunter - 3
Tim Dyck - 2
Kevin Giacobbo - 2
Kent Richter - 1
Matt Tomnuk - 1
Peter Klepachek - 1
Wesley Miller - 1
2 abstentions

Runoff (Voters were those who did not vote for Amandeep, Dwayne or Mike in the first round)

Amandeep Minhas - 8
Dwayne Pankiw - 1
Mike Moore -1

For the second consecutive year Dwayne lost in the runoff round.

it was a fun day, but i am a tad disappointed with my showing after the last meeting...oh well, next time for sure...

reggie and will, however, need to be praised for their efforts in pulling this off every few weeks. the ethl is a tightly run ship and never seems to have any organizational issues whatsoever, which is refreshing given some of the stories i hear from some tourneys...kudos to reggie and will for their hard work!

Thanks Tim, for the kind words, but to be fair to other organisers, I'm sure it's much easier running a 20 player tournament than it is to organise a 50-60 player event.

Will Wong does a great job with the stats. He has a lot more detailed stats that I will have Dwayne put up on our website within the next week.

The ETHL is a more balanced league this year, so if you have an off day, you will move down a few spots in the rankings. Keep training against Philippe in Calgary and get him up here when we move to our Sunday schedule after the Super Bowl!

Hey Reggie,

Clapping

Tim is right, running a 20-player tourney is a lot of hard work, especially repeating this throughout a season. I'm sure the scheduling and game prep is much like your 20-plus player Centennial Cups, minus the North American-wide promo and hardware, of course. And I can't neglect Centre Fountain and skylight at WEM ... or does Shanks have that, too?

I will have to keep my eye out for some dirt cheap WestJet flights to get in on some ETHL league action ... and perhaps book a room at the Richter Inn??

Cheers

Harvey, Schanks doesn't have a skylight, but Will Wong brings in 2 sets of 4 spotlights and, along with the 2 sets of 4 spotlights that Schanks have, we make our own sun light!!

Wade; Dwayne Pankiw, Jonathan Law and Tim Dyck have really improved their overall games. Kevin Giacobbo has really improved on offence and Ken King has done the same on defence, since he's switched to using Inters. You'll have a tougher time making A pool this year! Laughing

You aren't the only person who has to miss the first half of the season: Amandeep Minhas and Jason Stoddart can't make Saturdays as well.

Dwayne Pankiw has been updating the ETHL website with Will Wong's detailed stats. www.ethl.ca

Finished pages are: Standings, Head-to-Head, Players, Rankings, Schedule, Venue, Sponsors.

Dwayne is still working on: 1) the Statistics page which will include all 4 seasons of the ETHL 2) the Tournaments page which will include stats/results from the 4 Centennials and 2 Alberta Championships 3) the ETHL Awards page and 4) the ETHL rules page.

Hello all,

Just a couple of observations from a member of the ETHL. In the world rankings there are 27 listed dates for the ETHL. In those 27 dates only 10 different members have placed in the top 3. Only 4 members have had a first place finish and two of those no longer play in the ETHL. Reggie has never finished lower than 3rd place.

Also, Reggie has only one loss so far this year, and that was in overtime. I can not remember who beat him, but that is no small feat this year. Last meeting he only gave up 13 goals in 11 games.

Thanks,
Kent

Good observations, Kent. Are you looking for a solution to these observations? How about you ETHLers vote to see if this Reggie guy should be allowed to stay in the league??
